Xochitl
In Xochitl, you play a purple gnome whose aim it is to water flowers without being attacked by various garden animals. Enemies include beetles, spiders, snakes, and snails. There are only 8 levels as of now, but I plan to add more later.

In keeping with the restrictions of the competition, the game uses the arrow keys and spacebar for controls. So there's my excuse for not including WASD support (yet, at least). Note that the arrow keys move the purple gnome around, and spacebar drops a bomb (if you are in possession of any).

It gets really hard. Original I suppose.

I love Xochitl, its one of my presonal faves! Ive beat the game about twenty times now and I still love it. Its rythm is very addicting and topping your high score is just the best. The graphics and sounds are pitch perfect and fit the arcade theme. The difficulty is a little steep when you first begin, but it becomes more level as you progress. Im a little biased, I must admit, but Ive gotta give this a 9 for pure arcadey fun!

i love it, it really belongs in an arcade. It's also a pretty original idea. I like the sprites and the menu.

Hmmm, Interesting game...
Graphics
Fits gameplay, but surprisingly nice.
Sounds
Suits the gameplay, but gah, sometimes annoying.
Gameplay/Replay value
Fun to play, challenging, but I wouldn't reply it more than twice...

Pretty sprites, matching music and a game pairs reflex and strategy is nice. Since there are only 5levels, it should be hard. Though I'd think replacing lives with massive score reduction would be more suitable, but I suppose traditionalism has a place

There are eight levels, actually.

Nice, I like the vintage graphics. I think you would have done all parties involved a favor though if you modernized the soundtrack, or at least improved it a bit (I've heard other stuff from you so I know you can do better), but don't get me wrong. Very nice game. I like the old school graphics and wish I could do any sort of graphics myself. Gameplay was a bit lacking in my opinion but by far a league above the majority of GM games. A solid 8/10.

I'll admit to spending less than 10 minutes on the music (not an exaggeration).

I though that it was catchy and I grooves to it.

I like the concept, and it looks very professional and plays as it should. I still have my little problems.

I've never gotten a game over. I get too frustrated to die that often. Getting down to the last flower and having to start a stage over from scratch minus any bombs you used is annoying. I understand that that's adding challenge, but everything seems to just drag on far longer than it should, and without bombs the act of watering a flower swarmed by traps can get... frustrating. No pause at all also makes it annoying, as I have to kill the game every time anything happens anywhere else in the house. I haven't tried letting the form lose focus, but all the same... yuck. With how things are set up here, that seems like something that would have been really easy to add, too.

On the bright side, again, it's all very well done, and my complaints are mostly minor, if not a matter of taste. It definitely holds the old DOS feel and challenge. I know it has high scores only because I saw the room in the GMD, and since you lack a pause anyway, I think a time bonus of some sort would have made that a bit more relevant, as right now sit in a room long enough and you get more bombs, and a little luck with those and the spiders and you'e a point mine. Likewise, dieing resets everything else, but not your score, so this becomes yet another GM game where dieing does little but help you get a higher score, which I've always found a very poor measure of skill.

So it could be improved, btu for one month... not shabby. 6/10

I liked the classic look of it.
A bit hard though, but nice work.

First of all, that was a really good game! I can't recall seeing the idea in any game before, so you've got a thumbs-up for originality. The graphics, sounds and music all the suit the style of the game perfectly. I applaud you for adding Vista support (even though I use XP, it's still very useful for those with Vista.) It may be just me, but the bombs are rather difficult to carry out correctly, and don't help too much anyway. The amount of levels is a shame, but it's still good, and I see that you plan on adding more in. Definetely a keep, and it'd be excellent with some improvements.

I remember downloading this one a while ago after browsing yoyogames attempting to find something fun to play. This game caught my eye and I was immediately a fan. You capture the feel of an old arcade game perfectly, the graphics are charming, and the simple yet interesting concept are some of the things that make this a really solid game. It was very hard, but I don't view that as a negative thing. (I hate games that are too easy)

Awesome stuff. 10/10

That was a good idea for a game like that. It feels like being at the arcade center. Pretty stylish...
