Perfect everything, pretty much. A little laggy at times but it wasn't game-stopping or frequent.
The only suggestion/request I could make is to add more game time. Make the world much more expansive and add more upgrades (and stretch out the time between upgrades).
I found a bug. When you detonate a morph ball bomb, a wall will show a missile symbol. That's all fine, but then if you press esc and say you don't want to exit, the missile blocks become invisible even though they're solid and I cannot go through them [btw how do you shoot missiles? Pressing A only makes a click. I tried A then Z, I tried A+Z, and I tried smacking the keyboard. Nothing]
I'm genuinely not sure whether to give this a 9 or 10. The programming is top-notch, the gameplay is very good and the music is well... Metroidy. There is nothing wrong with the game in any capacity whatsoever. The only factor that counts against it is that it isn't original beyond level design. Whilst I respect that one shouldn't reinvent the wheel Metroid and indeed you shouldn't use custom graphics when there are perfectly good existing ones, it's still fundamentally unoriginal.
That is my only gripe. If this had been a thinly veiled clone with custom graphics, it may have got a 10/10.
I love it, it replicates almost every aspect of most of the metroid games into one. However, here's a few things you're lacking in, that the true metroid has a absolute !@*@#load of.
Length - Well, this is probably obvious now, but the length of the game is just... almost non-existant. Took me a good 20 minutes (5 of that devoted to killing kraid - that guy is hellish).
Challenge - It hardly presented me any difficulty on normal mode. Only hard thing was the bosses, that's a bad thing in games. Make more enemies to be mean to the player and beat him up, then you got a nice clone, take Super metroid for example. The first real enemies in that game were the space pirates - they hurt, they shoot from a distance, and their AI is a bitch if you ignore them.
and lastly, ZOMGWTF LONG TIME TO REACH ONE PLACE - Anyone that has played metroid knows this damn well. moar maps are needed.
Other than all that, this is a tribute to metroid. 9/10 (The music, being honest, just didn't seem to fit - sorry. Try for more ambient things, while the boss battle music needs to sound more frantic)
QUICK EDIT - Oh yeah, if you're gonna put in her fears, throw in SA-X while you're at it. Scared the shit out of me, and it's a difficult boss.
I thought it was awesome. however theres a few things that i would like to see.
First of all, im not sure if theres a weapons menu. Cause i didnt know what that ball did cause i missed it, but i think it was charge beam. If there is one, make it more obvious please :P
Next, the beginning was good, but then i got lost because of all of the different ways i could go, and no indicator where i should go. no save points or map rooms in the first area. also, it was a little tough for the bosses. the enemies were okay in the mazes, but the bosses were pretty hard.
ill play more of it later.

Awesome. Really.
This is just a tech demo of AM2R isnt it, with a title and mini-story thrown in? If so I cant wait for the final release, if not... TOO SHORT!!!

It's alright, considering that I never have played a 2D Metroid game, I have to say this is my favorite. But I'm not too certain it's worth a 10/10. =(
Maybe it's just me, but this game is laggy as all hell.
I checked my task manager and its process was using well over 100,000 K! I had nothing else open. It was sucking up almost all of my memory.
My computer has an ATi Radeon X1600 video card, 2.9 GHz processor and 1.5 gigs of ram. Why can't I run this? I can run Half-Life 2 on highest settings without problems.
It was lagging ALL THE TIME. Even the title screen was laggy. During gameplay it was so laggy I could tap a button four times before it even registered the first key press. I don't know what it is, but I'm not liking it and I'm hoping its just my computer.
As of right now the game does not run smoothly at all and the lag is unbearable. It looks great but until I can actually enjoy it I'm not going to rate it.
