Seriously, I can't say it enough - you're great tutors!

I have about 7 days left before school starts and I've successfully been able to figure out, or at least I believe I've figured out 8 questions! That would be very good if there weren't 29. That leaves 21 unanswered. :\

I honestly have tried to solve the problems but I don't really understand any of them. I know there are a lot of intelligent people here who have amazing comprehension of mathematics. I was just wondering if anyone had the spare time to explain the problems out to me so that I understand them and can complete them. I'm not looking for someone to do my homework for me, I'm looking for someone to explain it to me. I'd really like to learn this stuff before I go back to school so I don't feel as much like an idiot.

Also, I'm not really worried about my grade with the problems because there was a lot of other stuff that will level it out to being okay and I know the teacher - she's nice and will help me when school starts, but I'd like to not get behind once the class starts. :)

So, help me please. I mean, I'll figure something out if nobody helps, but I would really be greatful. :P

If you post the problems I could try.

I will… and I know you can. It's pretty simple stuff but for the life of me I can't remember how to do any of it. :\

Here's a couple sample problems:

Rewrite the expression "log5(x+3)" into an quivalent expression using only the natural logarithms

Solve the equation "2sin^2(x)cos(x)=cos(x)" algebraically.

There's also stuff dealing with limits that my teacher last year never got to. I'll scan the sheets and post them if you want to help more. I just feel really dumb because I almost never have to ask for help. :(

here is my attempt at one of the problems:

2sin^2(x)cos(x)=cos(x)

2sin^2(x)=1

sin^2(x)=1/2

sin(x)=(+-) sqrt(1/2)

x=sin (^-1) ((+-) sqrt(1/2)) # are trig functions algebra? (xD)

Let A be any integer

x=( (+-) 45 )+( A*90 )

I found wikibooks to be very useful for learning calculus, trig, etc…

Dammit, I keep being reminded school is next week. I need to go and drink more alcohol.

And fuck I think I was just reminded that I may or may not have received summer homework too

First one is easy, its just a change of base. You can rewrite any log as a division of the top and the base. Hence:

log5(x+3) = (ln(x+3))/ln(5)

Because ln is just shorthand for log base e.

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logarithm#Change_of_base

Acid, please be more clear on the second one. I can't tell whether it's

2*(sin(x)^(2)*(x*cos(x)))=cos(x) or

(2*sin(x)^(2*x))*cos(x)=cos(x) etc etc.

Its the easier one Rawr.

You are on a great start! Your math brain is kicked in.

Thanks guys. That really helped! I knew it had something to do with changing the log to ln but I didn't know how.

I knew they were really simple I just couldn't figure them out! :P

I'll post the scans on the blog in the morning. :)

Keep explaining how you've been doing, it's the perfect level for me to understand! :)

Okay, I uploaded a picture with the problems I'm having trouble with cropped together. Thanks for helping guys! :)
