Week 3

Well three weeks in and it’s time for a progress update!

We have most of our graphics in and displaying correctly except for a few bugs. All of the required sprites are currently in the game. At this point anything else I make will just be extra gravy.

Some pictures!

Here is an in-game screenshot of an office. Take note of varied employee types. Every employee is randomly generated.

All of the personality and character systems have been implemented. Employees have a mood which you can see on their updated facial expressions in their portraits. Morale is like an aggregated mood and influences factors of employee’s behavior such as work rate. If an employee’s morale gets to low they will quit.

Mood is affected by events, friendships with other employees and a bit of day to day randomness sprinkled in to simulate those days where you get up on the wrong side of the bed.

Employees have skills and learn and improve when assigned to tasks. They also have relationships with each other that are influenced by a multitude of factors such as personality and project success or failure.

The more you talk to an employee the more information you learn about them including their personality, quirks, and likes. All of these factors affect employee’s productivity.

Gameplay

In the image below you can see employee windows and the projects screen. On this screen you can assign your workers to certain tasks and keep an eye on your progress. Depending on how well you manage your people you will be rewarded with (or lose) promotion points and when you get enough you will be promoted (or fired).

Because of the time constraints of the competition or goal is to end the game at promotion (We have a lot of ideas for future gameplay but that is beyond the scope of this competition). There is still a lot of work that needs to be done on gameplay and we will be the major focus of our remaining time (along with GUI and polish).

Development has gone smoothly, but the last few days have been a slog. Hopefully our experiment will be a success! YAH!

Whelp, back to work for us!

Watch Us Work

If you are interested in watching our development we have been recording each day as a timelapse video and have a playlist on YouTube. Link to playlist
