The Spores Are Taking Over!

There has been almost no hype made by EA about Spore, but the idea has become extremely popular because of what they've said at game confrences and it's already everyones favourite game, months before release.

And so came the anticipation games. The most notable one is Evolites by Martin which i think is the only one released, and i've heard word of a few as wips that aren't out yet.

Because of Martin i've suddenly gotten into science. I've learnt about fractals before but haven't really gotten into them, but with gm that's both impressive and cool. I've also come to realize that evolites is more of a perfectly controlled experiment then a game.

So guess what? I decided to make one too. I'm kind of shoving my other wips out of the way because one's not that innovative except for the planets, and the other is just an idea and some graphics. I guess you could call my idea an evolites fan game, becase i'm aiming to make it something like evolites, but much more complicated with mating rather than dividing for reproduction adn some other things.

Some ideas i have so far;

Each 'Beagle' as i'm calling them temporarally (named afther the HMS Beagle ) will have a number of genes from 20 to 50, and they can only reproduce with others with a gene count no different than 5 in either direction (so a total range of 10). The newborns gene count will be the average of the parent's gene count, so very rarely can a Beagle with parents whose gene counts are different. Think mules.

Aside form size (which determines how much food is required) and speed, there are 6 other variables, and each will difine the Red, Blue or Green value of one of the Beagle's two colors. The closer to white they are, the higher the values are, and the closer to dark the lower. Having these higher is usually a good thing. The values of these are average of the parents'.

What i have so far for them:

Initiative - This is the Beagles will to do what is needed when no one else is or it's not being done well enough, such as food production*, waste management and so forth.

Loyalty - This is the Beagle's likliness to mate with the same parter rather that finding a new one, and how long it will stay with it's yound before discontinuing to provide for it.

Maturing Speed - This determines how long it takes before the Beagle is capable of independence, so if the parent las low loyalty and the child has a low maturing speed, it might die young, though if somone not caring for a child has extremely high initiative it might 'atopt the child' and care for it on it's own**

Selflessness - This is the Beagle's willingness to put others before self, making it less agressive searching for food(though it is more agressive with hunger and if it has a hungry child). This also determines how it will devide the food between itself and the child. Extremely high selflessness might result in martyrdom, or dying because it's too giving.

Lifespan - Pretty Self Explanitory, how long it lives if it never starves of is canabalized. There is some randomness in the lifespan, and it's affected by nutrition***

Hunger - This is how hungry the beagle bust be before it starts hunting for food. This also leads to agressive ness in hunting. IF this is very high, and the selflessness is very low, it might turn canibal when starving, when which the nutriton is very poor.

* & *** Beagles can learn to produce food from patches, and the speed depends on a few different things. The nutrition value of food is based primarily on the ammount of pollution, which goes down when high-initiative Beagles without children to feed decide decide to clean up. Food produced by beagles is strictly decided by pollution, while random food varies by %20 in either direction. Canibalizing living Beagles provides the nutrition of that beagle lived by -%40, and eating dead beagles provides what it lived by, subtracting ofer time as the corpse decays. Nutrition decides how far the food goes to a degree, some of the traits of the Beagle as it lives and how some traits are passed. Beagles are oblivious to teh nutritons of the food they're eating except when eating babies.

** When two Beagles reproduce, the female generally defends the baby while having to get food for herself, and the male hunts for food for himself and the baby. When there is only one parent that parent provides food for the baby and itself, leaving it more exposed to starving canibals, who like to snack on babies becase they are born with good nutrition.

Well that's a lot. the advantage professional game designers have is they have people who are paid to do the programming for them.

There are tons of fan games, believe me. Evolites is the only good one though.

Evolites was a fan game?

I'm pretty sure it was inspired by Spore. I think I remember FredFredrickson saying that in the WIP topic at the GMC.
