Who is the chimp?

Well, I ussually don't write much and I finaly have a few minutes to spare. (Working on my next game ussualy). So… a little about me. I am what you would call "Old Skool". What that means is that I can play a game like Project Gotham Racing 2 on the XBox and still play something like Enduro on the Atari 2600 and still have an enjoyable experience. I have seen videogames evolve from almost it's beginings. In my opinion the early 80's are still the most "magical" time of them all. I walk into an arcade now and it makes me wan't to take an axe to the games. Almost every game falls into one of three categories… Driving game, Fighting game or Gun Shooting game. A few different titles but for the most part I see way too much of this type of thing. The originality is gone! To describe to the younger generation what it was like in an 80's arcade is difficult. It was a time when "color" videogames where exploding on the scene. New ideas like 3-D and speach in games made people say "WOW!" The originality of that time is unlike any other. Sure there were many driving games, shooting games, etc… but they all felt different from one another. Pac-Man was a big hit of course but if someone ussualy tried to do a spin-off of it, it had it's own flavor…(Pepper II…Zipping up rooms instead, Ladybug…Turnstyle walls, Mousetrap…different color walls changed positions when the player decided, Marvins Maze… a 3-D Zaxxon perspective with multiple levels on the maze…)

Other titles of the era… Donkey Kong…the first platform game that made it big, Crazy Climber…had you climbing a building, Marble Madness, Star Castle, Centipede, Bump and Jump, I, Robot, Gyruss… you name it.

Home games may still have a bit of variety, but the machines of the arcade are re-hashed old ideas today.

And that is what is missing in the videogame industry more and more I feel… lack of originality…or very cool games that get "overlooked" because they were not advertized to death.

So with the games I work on, I will ussulay try to come out with something with a more original twist(3-D Kaboom!) or try to re-make some of my favorite "lesser-known" games I stumbeld accross durring my years of gameplay. (Roll On!…Roll Away for PlayStation, Mount Neverest….Zeke's Peak/Ice Cold Beer…non-videogames by Taito).

I have owned quite a few game systems over the years. I either still own/have owned an RCA Studio II, Atari Video Pinball (stand alone unit), Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, Colecovision, Intellivision II, Commodore Vic-20, Commodore 64, Amiga 500, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Master System, Sega Game Gear, Sega Genesis, Turbo Grafix 16, Game Boy (Black and white), Odyssey 2, PC, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, XBox and a few other odd-balls. So after aprox. 25 years I think I have a pretty good grasp what makes a "good game" as I have seen it all basicaly.

Videogames has been about my only "hardcore" hobby, and I am still devoted to it. My goal is to pull away some of my best experiences and make games for others so they can experience the same thrills I had.

Hope I can live up to your expectations and keep you entertained for a while.

Umm….a chimp does not equal a man, he is an unevolved human essentially that is below all of us which is why he is ugly and wastes my time with this blog.

Wow…I noticed you only had 146 hits…that's pretty sad considering you've been a member longer than my friend has, and he is less active than you are, and he has twice as many hits as you.

I was just joking. >_>

BTW, never correct somebody if they're even smarter than you are. I say that in the most polite way possible.

I hope you make some great games. I pretty much feel the same way.

Uh…I just put this up yesterday. I am not looking for "hits". If someone want's to read this stuff that's fine. I just try and make games that people will enjoy to the best of my abilitys.
