Well, I have been bouncing around between projects with what little time I have. Like I said when I released 3-D Kaboom!, that was just a very quick experiment done in a couple days for posible future 3D games (with the red/blue style glasses)
So what may be the next game that needs the glasses? Well, this should give you a clue… I don't think I will be able to have the "normal" enemies and stuff, but it should have some simular properties with enemys coming out from the center.For any of the younger generation that may not recognize this picture, it is Atari Tempest. Converting the levels was not bad at all. (For the most part.) Some levels did not turn out right because of some tunnels "overlapping" due to thier perspective. I used an old Tempest level editor someone made years back called TempEd to convert the levels. TempEd basically lets you alter the original levels in the game to all sorts of shapes and such. All it took was to move the outer rim as far left as it could go, take a snapshot, and then do the same thing for the right. Now you have a stereo-pair ready to be converted. The program I used to make the images in 3-D Kaboom! was 3D Combine. You can convert to quite a few formats, but basically load in your left view, right view, and tell it to convert it to anaglyph red/blue. Presto….3D! Next you just cut out your objects (I did like 12 at a time) and load em up as sprites. I used 3Space to render the bombs in two different views. I have something else in the works right now, but if I do go back and do another game with glasses this would probably be it. I was able to convert about 10 of the original 16 levels decently where they should be usable.Two more pics for the currious…
I know not many people have the glasses. (Mainly why I am starting on other things). But for those that might have the glasses it may be a nice twist. I am not going for maximum downloads. If only a few people play it and have fun with it, I find it worth my time.
i don't even know where i would obtain some of these glasses from.
I second Firefly, I'm not gonna buy any spykids movies from ebay. Its a good idea though.
Heheh. Tempest. Classic.
@school are some plates
im gonna make them xDblue left or right?For the glasses themselves mine are left eye red / right eye blue. The red lense only sees the light blue (cyan) lines and the blue lense only sees the other. If the colors are mixed they are seen in both. If you use 3D combine and make a stereo pair and it "doesn't look right" use the option to swap the images and see if it looks right. You only need a couple degrees of difference between some pictures to give them depth. 3D Combine lets you use it free for at least 30 trys (times loaded). Just make sure you focus on the exact same point and height level if you are taking pictures. Take a few in case some are too close together/spread apart.
Very nice. I just so happen to have a pair of 3D glasses.
