Ever order a Coke and someone brings you a Pepsi instead? Seems that is what you get with a majority of these handheld systems you plug into the T.V. these days. There is no excuse for such dishonesty with all the technology we have now. It comes down to plain lazyness I thik.
I have not bought many handheld units you plug into the T.V. because you ussualy get smoked in the end. I already had the Atarti 2600 Joystick unit with 10 games. (All fakes). I have the Space Invaders Handheld (A little better but still all fakes). And the latest fake?…Intellivision 10. Shame on you people! I got it dirt cheap for like $5.00 and I still feel ripped off!
The picture above shows REAL Intellivision games. Thats the kicker… with what you get on the controler, at first glance it might fool you for a couple seconds… but once you start to play…Oh boy, is this BAD!!! Wrong colors, missing music, totally wrong sounds, and the gameplay?…Not even close. Nightstalker has a different maze. The hypnotic Thump, Thump, Thump sound in the background is gone. Bats are replaced by robots in later rounds if they get hit in the original. Later Robots need 3 hits to kill. Etc.. Skiing…the player on the screen used to have something like 24 different positions possible. In the handheld? It's reduced to about 5! What a joke. The size of the character seems bigger as well.Shark! Shark!…Again totally wrong sounds and plays WAY to fast. The shark seems to have a lower I.Q. as well.Star Strike…No speed control?!? The action is again way too fast and the bombs seem to be launched down at record speed. The earth is fricking PINK in the handheld version. There are so many things wrong with this handheld you can find flaws with just about everything. Of course I had to write a letter of complaint to them just like the Atari 2600 controler handheld. No response of course. Is it too hard to have the original hardware and games shrunk down to tht size? Of course not, and the proof has been out there for years. If you have not heard of a guy by the name of Benjamin J Heckdorn he has been carving up old systems for years and making "portables" out of them. Portable Atari 2600, Colecovision, NES, SNES, Genesis (Just buy a Nomad?), Portable Playstation 1, etc..Here is one of his latest creations…A portable Atari 2600 and NES combo unit. TWO systems cramed together WITH a screen no less.
Only one handheld I found worth buying for being the REAL deal… the C-64 joystick. The stick quality could be better, but it's guts are a real Commodore 64. All the games are exactly like they used to be (minus the load times). About 30 games on it and they are some of the best from that computer.
All time classics like Imposible Mission. One of the best shooters on that computer…Uridium. (I saw that title that controler was good as sold.) Platform games lke Tower Toppler with it's spinning perspective on the tower. Winter Games…not a stick breaker like Track N Field thankfully…loaded with events that are more unique on gameplay. I hope companys get the hint and start to release REAL games instead of these phony knock-offs. They should have a big yellow sticker on them saying "Plays kinda-sorta in some ways like the original game!" as a plug. If anyone is interested at a peek at Benjamin J. Heckdorn's other handheld units he has constructed you can check them out here…http://benheck.com/all-game-projects/
That guy makes some awesome stuff. I've checked him out before.
Just be happy they don't spontaneously combust
That guy makes some awesome stuff.
I've checked him out before.OMG @ XBOX 360 LAPTOP
They should just take a Intellivision 2 controller with that funky disk and finger bruising side buttons and make a portable plug'n play.Id buy that.
Speaking of controllers,I like Heckdorn's creations, but he's wrong about the atari jaguar.Atari made a 6 button controller with shoulder buttons, the D pad was still below ave though. Those Intellivision II controlers are quite thin underneath the keypad. (I own one…still in the basement). I don't mind making the controler part more comfortable so much. If there were real Intellivision guts in it to run the games, some of the games may still be missing something a little bit. Those funky discs were 16 directional while most other controlers were 8 (unless analog of course). I think Intellivision was accused of intentionally putting something extra in the Intellivision II model where some third party games did not work. Used to see stickers on some games…"Does not work on Intellivision II".
I have an Inty 2 also…but it's sitting on top of the 50 pound JVC VCR unit…
LOL! 50 pound VCR unit? Sounds like the stuff we had in school when I was in 5th grade. Built like a tank. Then we bought our very first VCR a few years later for the home…On sale for $575. Top loader, 2 head with wired remote and stations you had to dial in by hand. What a bargin =) And of course movies if you wanted to buy them. Lets see… Star Wars $108, Blues Brothers $75….
