USB Blues

Well, this is about my poor, sad, dead little USB card. It held my school asignments and several important Game Maker files. And if I could play the guitar, I would play some sad, sad blues song thing about my USB card. But seeing as I can't, and I really don't want to sing, I'll give you a semi long post about what happened, and maybe some Game Maker news.

It all started during first hour, band (I play the trombone. Please, no trombone jokes. I get enough of those from the drummers). This one drummer (the only one who wont make trombone jokes) asked me how I make my games (I talk about it a lot to him), and asked if he could have the program. I said sure, why not? It's not illegal to install the free version to his MP3 player. He gives me his MP3 player and blablabla untill band is over and it's PC SUPPORT TIME!

Anyway, I plug in my USB, all is fine. I look at my files, good to go. So, I plug in his MP3 player, and thats when the problems start. I can't figure out why the computer wont read the MP3 player, so I switch to the drives the USB plugs were in (and the MP3 was starting to get hot). I got the MP3 running, but whats this? My USB drive is dead. The computer isn't even reading that it's there. I try it on other computers, nothing, but all the other USB drives are fine. It's my USB that is dead now.

I do eventualy get Game Maker onto his MP3 (by downloading it during lunch), as well as some tutorials for him, but my USB has gone into the great FireWire in the sky, unless I can revive it some how. I can live with the lost files, but I wont have easy file transfer for quite awhile now. Anyone have any ideas on what happened? I don't expect to revive it (though it would be very nice, as somewhat pointed out two sentances ago), I just want to know what the heck happened to it.

And now onto Game Maker news.

I'm putting my RTS on hold for a while, or at least on slow moving progress, because I got a FPS request from someone at school. He wants me to make a FPS with him as the star. He wants it to be like Quake 3, and I don't think I can do that well with Game Maker, so I might use DarkBASIC for this one. And I really can't go further untill SOMEONE TELLS ME WHAT IS FASTER!

Tons of sprites with tons of Lengthdir functions

2D polygons with not as much Lengthdir functions

Game Makers 3D functions

Thank you, and have a nice day.

I'm getting better at Halo 2, seeing as me and my group (aka, me and another friend of mine) are some of the best.

Hmm.. I don't know what could have happened there. Maybe some static?

@Pacman: MP3 players are convinient portable hard drives.

Yeah, he just wants it on his computer.

The comp couldn't read one of them for some reason and it tried to 'imitate' the other drive's actions. Probably burned a connection. You could get it fixed, but depending on it's size it's probably not worth it. (this is just one theory)

It was a sony 512. One of those Micro Vaults. I'm not planning on reviving it any time soon, if I even want to. All my files (but 1) are backed up somewhere else, and I don't need that 1 file any more, seeing as the full game recently came out.

Meh, if it's under 1 gig it's probably not worht it unless it has some crazy processor

Like I said, well, I didn't say, but that's not the point. The point is I'm OK with the loss of it, even if I only had it for a little over one month. I'll have to talk to my teacher about that USB drive I put it in. I think it's wired wrong, thus over loading my USB and bricking it.
