I can't believe this place is still online! I'm doing some programming at this moment and went to gmlscripts. I thought, why not visit 64digits!
So how have you guys been doing? I've pretty much abandoned game development as a hobby, such a shame. I did pick up rowing however, its pretty intense. In any way, is gamemaker still worth something? I've seen that it can do HTML5 and IOS bla bla. Probably a feature which you have to pay for no? For my study I tend to use java, which is nice. Also I often use unity, but I'm not really fond of it. Maybe I should make a game in java or something, someday. So many things have changed here! Are there any other old members like me still here? I also noticed that next year I will become a 10 year old member. Wow, who would have thought that!So yeah, I thought it was funny to write a blog :p I wish everyone the best and I'll see you guys around, maybe..!Cheers,Bryan
Well there's a blast from the past! Good to see you here again!
I've always been interested in taking up rowing, would you recommend it? Did you join a club or do you do it yourself? There are plenty of old members still around here. 64Digits is alive and kicking!Funny how I joined in 2007 and probably still not considered an "old member" even though it's now 2014.
Oh god I'm so old@Eagly, Nice to see you too! I'd say rowing is pretty fun! It is very pleasant to go for a paddle when its nice weather. I joined a student rowing club! Its a bit like a small fraternity. I personally row on a competitive level thus I train about 8-9 times a week :p
@Toast, You have the old bean badge, so at least there is a small bit of acknowledgement!Bryan, my man! How the hell have you been?
Pity about the game dev, but it seems like most people have given it up in favor of bigger and better things. It's a good time to be in game dev but it's extremely competitive, and a very arduous career with little immediate reward. If you're doing it as a hobby though, GM is still alright, albeit run by a company who's more out for money than making a good product (they strictly support their cash cow, GMS, rather than the legacy GM line). Unity feels like the opposite, despite prices more in line with professional products, mostly because they allow you to get by on the free version, giving you everything you need outside of cool effects. I feel like they have a better community over there, too, but comparing to the GM community isn't saying much.I quite like Unity but it has the strangest workflow. Once you adjust to it though, it's a very powerful engine. I've used Java and Obj-C to do stuff too, for mobile stuff of course, and it's a lot slower than using GM or Unity but it feels a whole lot more rewarding. Also, I have a year and a half before I hit the decade-old mark. And that's probably a good indicator that I should question why I'm still hanging around this odd place.Don't disappear too soon, man. Seeing old members really livens this place up.One of the few people with an account older than mine is still active!
Bryan, we joined at the same time, and I remember your username, but I don't think we talked much. I lurked for almost a year before posting.
I remember lurking in 2005 and then joining in 2006… damn. Back then I was a member of Game Maker showcase and stuff. And btw, i think GM:Studio is overpriced, but if you are good at the game development side more than the programming side, its a good tool for someone or a few people to get a game out on multiple platforms quite quickly and easily. Probably easier than anything else, so it lives up to its original "easy game development" title.
Either way im glad the site is still kicking even though I usually have long periods of being absent, then checking back every now and again.I don't know if I'm considered an old member since I basically made this account in 2006 to link my site here. :P
It's always good to see one of the first 500 come back.
Mind altering code ya know. Always draws you back in.Idk if we should be insulted or happy that when old members come back they're surprised we aren't dead.
