Hey guys,
Time for my yearly appearance, and of course a new design - V4 -or what ever. With last years ultra failure of a launch, i hope this new one will please the crowds. Here are the templates (not all work yet): http://www.vacantview.com/64 Who can guess who's blog i copied for filler text?Lets follow in the footsteps of our masters…http://i.imgur.com/HtIPi.jpg
Xemic: I haven't looked at the source (Cadonian's been writing the code without me), but out of curiosity, what do you mean by incorrectly using nbsp and <br />? I didn't know there was an incorrect way to use them.
Actually I meant it's bad practice. is used at places where it has no effect (a normal space works just fine).
And <br /> Is a line break, and should only be used in <p> paragraphs. Whenever it is used outside, it's often an indicator that you are not making the pages semantically sound.Ah, I see.
Using <p> still seems weird to me when I write my own HTML. I'm still in the mindset I had 10 years ago when I first learned what <p> did - to me it was just used to put two line breaks, haha.Fortunately I don't write much HTML anymore.Looks really crisp and professional.
Super Professional, like whoa.
I'm creeping your sourcecode, I hope you don't mind.Actually, make the activity feed 20-30 entries. Stuff falls off way too fast. =|
Or 50.GEEZ, THAT IMAGE SUCKS.I really like the user page and game page, but the front page needs improvement. Recent activity needs to contain more and be more condensed. Also there is no slot for News from the administrators. And why not make it longer? Navbar needs to change, those options are just silly.
I like it a lot, but I still disagree with all of the white space on the sides. It needs to pop out a little more because it's very monochromatic. Try adding a very light, subtle background (http://www.geminiyouth.com), like a light gradient, and see how it looks.
In Firefox (on a Mac), the navigation bar is padded a bit on the "Home" button. I don't know if that's intentional, but I can't try a PC to see different. Since you're still using a switched charset, <meta charset="ISO-8859-1"> would be simpler. The activity feed on the top-right will be jQuery, right? As an alternative to a subtle background, I think it would be nice if the navigation bar at the very bottom of the page was also as the top (yeah, two of them). It would add more aesthetic appeal and be more convenient instead of having to scroll to the bottom of the page. Maybe, instead of having a navigation bar, it can be user bar: To the left, the username, a few statistics, "Post Blog" maybe, and to the far right, "Sign Out". If not signed in, it could have a login form.Oh, and Google and Bing no longer accept the use of META tags. Their robots ignore them, and use sitemap.xml, robots.txt, and read "alt" tags to index images for Google images.
