[Carlos] Platforms and Knee Doctors

Platform Slope Tilt Script

After having not slept for 2 1/2 days in a row, I attempted to create a script which basically aligns a sprite to whatever slope they are on. I went through like a million different methods, one including EXTENSIVE trigonometry (I wasn't aware of the lengthdir functions).

It's weird you know, sometimes you become so brain dead, you actual "feel" that your brain is mush. Anyways, I got some sleep in, woke up, and coded the damned thing in less then 15 lines of code. Go figure :)

I submitted it in the examples, should only be a matter of time…until then here's the file http://www.64digits.com/download.php?name=Sprite_Tilting.gm6&id=14633 . To use the script, you will need to create an object named obj_corlaser with a 1x1 pixel sprite, which has transparency turned off. Then you must assign the script to which ever object you want to add some realism to.

ARGUMENTS:

argument0 = Precision (currently has no effect)

argument1 = Distance from sprite to check for a collision for (I find passing the sprites height works best. To big or small a number, and you loose realism)

IN OTHER NEWS

I'm heading to the hospital later on to get some knee X-Rays. I totally F-Up my knees practicing martial arts over the past couple years. I found out when I tried to enlist in the Marines two years ago. Apparently, my knees seemed bad to the doc's, so I wasn't allowed in.

I'm all better, and am now trying to enlist in the National Guard. I'm pretty excited, I'll get a $20,000 enlistment bonus for picking a particular MOS, and $2000 for having a friend in the military help me enlist (we each get 2 G's). I'm 20, and have had more than $200 in the bank at any given time.

The MOS (your job in the military) that I chose, is basically anti-hacking. I will be responsible for keeping network security safe at our base, and in a decade or so, will have the opportunity to work at the Pentagon (it's hard, but I'm up for the challenge).

CLOSING

I'm still figuring out the tips and tricks to blogging here, but all I can say is this site is AWESOME!

EDIT 5:45pm

Man oh man, I am very happy. Turns out the doc cleared me, so I'll be enlisting in the next couple days. Also, I'm going to continue working on the Lemmings Engine…expect Builders and Bombers to be completed in the next couple hours, and a working HUD.

Once my project is in the WIP section, I will be updating the info AS I code it…so stay tooned :). For now however, I will post only major achievements.

CODER'S SECTION

Starting tomarrow, I'm going to see if I can add a little section to my blogs containing a short script or tutorial…so stay tuned!

EDIT 7:23pm

I've made an update to the lemmings engine. The classic images now work properly. Also, I've placed in a HUD. Please note, it's not that I'm working slow, it's that EACH AND EVERY aspect is variable from a file, so creating the variables and variable loading features takes a while.

Nice. A sprite tilt example. I'll DL when I get home. I need one. =)

2 G's is a big bonus. Spend it well. Try to get the cheap hookers.

Carlos_Ramos 17 years, 9 months ago

hehe, Twenty G's, it wasn't a typo :)

Of course, once I enlist I will practilly be "selling" my soul to the government for the next 6-8 years to do with whatever they so desire. hmmmm :(

Josea 17 years, 9 months ago

Nah, nothing really, it happens that I'm latin american too, not completely, but I least I was born and live here.

that's cool, what country? My parents are Puerto Rican, but they where in Mexico maybe 2 days before I was born! That would have been something :) !
