If you read my last blog, you would've heard that my laptop suffered a tragedy. After being accidentally dropped about half a foot, it refused to start up, so I sent it in to Dell for repairs.
Disclaimer: Any unapproved remarks against Dell or Windows Vista will be disrregarded and/or deleted. I'm sure we all know how much you hate both of them, so do us all a favor and keep your mouth shut for once. And yes, J@D, I'm talking to you, too.Anyhow, I do have one thing to say against Dell. Their service is terrible. They're slow, but I don't see what people have against the computers. They work perfectly.Well, I received my laptop back yesterday, opened it up, put in the hard drive and battery…and…No worky. The same error as before. To my horror, I realized it was most likely the hard drive. So I picked up the phone (without Internet access, duh) and called them, where I was put on hold.10 minutes later? No.Try half an hour later. After 30 minutes of waiting, someone finally answered. After some explanation and quick tests, he finally concluded that it was my hard drive.Laptop hard drives are durable. This one must have suffered some internal damage or something. He directed me through processes I already knew, like restoring the drive to factory condition, and that failed to work, or even recognize the operating system. With my warranty, I'm getting a new hard drive.Yes. All my work is gone. What was backed up? I had my music, Lixies Adventures, 64Brawl, and one of my novels.Serprex or ObeliskIf my version of LA is out of date, I need you to give me the source I sent so I can continue working. Thanks a lot.So, on Friday or Monday, I can begin anew. The whole phone call took 76:18, by the way. (76 minutes and 18 seconds). Like I said, terrible service, good computer. For everybody's reference: At any time in the future, I can downgrade to Windows XP. Since I've had the TIME and PATIENCE to deal with Vista, I'm not getting rid of it.And Josh, you prefer Linux? It's freaking outdated. I don't know why you'd prefer that, but it's your choice, I guess. With that being said,Peace out, and I'll join you all again very soon (with games being restarted),~KilinPssst…Lixies Arena will be next.
Dang, I feel for you, that reminds me.
I need to backup my files.I would die If I lost all of my stuff. I agree, I like Dell (thier computers, never needed support) We have two Dells and an HP. I would use the Dells anyday over the HP.-ElmerniteNo problem with Dell over here.
Yeah, what OL said. Windows was realeased in 1985, while Linux came out in 1991. Plus, Linux is still being updated in ways that put Windows to shame.
REZ is right.
I have a dell, for christmas.@Geo, really? That's one hell of a cool feature. Drop it, and see what happens. If I recall, Dell wished to support Linux but Microsoft decided to be mean and so they didn't. And that is why you should always backup stuff, silly Kilin
And you be nice about Linux,I hasm a captive you want…and I was about to delete my Xfers yesterday before I realized LA was in there and you might want it. That folder lags so hard when I try to go in itGUESS WHAT, EVERYBODY!
Dell's service may be bad, but they and DHL have amazing delivery speeds. I'm back up and running RIGHT NOW. =D@Fcon: The one I thought wasn't so good.@serprex: No, I plan on getting an alternate Linux OS on my computer for dev. I don't hate Linux, I just said it was kinda old. No plans for getting it as an individual OS here. The nice thing about Linux is unlike Apple, it's still supported by a few games, including my personal favorite, Creatures.Very nice, but anything other home built is junk to me. Hehehe…
Trust me, if I had the parts and a little more money, I'd do it. I've built a few, but they were pieces of junk anyway. The best one I did had a 1 GHz processor…
