Lixie Development is a Fickle Thing

Well, JW said not long ago that life blogs suck, and we should start posting more dev blogs. I like the guy, so I'm going to take his suggestion. We DO need more dev blogs.

Hopefully this is something that at least a couple people might like to hear.

I've been doing a bit of work on Lixies, given the new working title of Lixim (Lixies Simulator). Of course to accompany and further inspire this, you may also note my banner, my hit counter, and more recently, my avatar.

But haven't you already said you'd be working on a different game?

Yes, I did. Shame on me, I know. Nobody liked it anyway. I'll just postpone it like EVERY OTHER GAME I HAVE.

So here are the updates:

- Redid ground tiles (added detail like grass, rocks, sand, etc.)

- Fixed blending on ground tiles

- Fixed an ugly bug where lixies would crash into a wall, turn around, and sit there until you told them to move

- Fixed some life stage issues. The lixies now change in size as they progress through life.

So as you can see, kind of lacking in development. That wall bug has been pissing me off for a while. Problem is, older lixies get stuck on ramps. More things to fix.

So now you, the valuable player, get to help me decide something. In order to properly work on the AI, I need to decide how a lixie will get around. If there's food on a platform above him and he just so happens to be hungry, he's going to need to get there. Or die trying.

Lixies can focus on items and walk towards or away from them, but what about items that are too far up or down? They need some form of elevation.

Here are the current choices:

1 - Go up and down using activated elevators. The lixie will be able to control it without your help. This is sort of complicated.

2 - Use propelled platforms, which rise and fall on their own, taking lixies against their will.

3 - Use springs (currently in the game). No collision issues, but the AI has trouble working on this.

4 - This a platform game? Make everything flat. FLAT. No need for elevators.

5 - Give them rocket poo.

6 - LET THEM FLY WITH GODMODE ON. THEY CAN GO THROUGH PLATFORMS AND LOL AS THEY WIN THE GAME.

Other suggestions are very welcome.

It's noclip, not godmode, and you should have to control the elevators yourself, or is this supposed to be a simulation that the player has no control over? idk then, the ability to jump? Or even cooler have them stack on top of each other like in locoroco. Sorry for the small amount of page stretching…

Well, the lixies are going to have to be able to do things on their own, even without you. Because they're supposed to be work, and somewhat frustrating.

Basically you can't just keep them contained, otherwise the whole world is there for nothing.
