First, here's a funny video for those of you who play shoot-em-ups, and especially those familiar with Touhou. Basically, I was right at the end and died. It was depressing. Fifteen minutes of dodging waaaasted.
How embarrassing…. I've been talking with Purianite a bit lately, and he recommended a couple shoot-em-ups to me. So I downloaded them. But I haven't played them. The only one I did play was Ikaruga (where has it been my whole life?), and man, that's a fun game. School's just about out, and summer's just work and no class. That means I can actually make progress on some games.Right now it's a juggle between- Lixim- Terminys- LODM- Prism SoulI'm also doing a little activity called "novel in 30 days," where I basically write a novel outside of my comfort zone (genre, etc), and write as if I'm attempting to get it published, which I might, depending on how it turns out.I think that's it for now. I'll have progress blogs later.
Watching this really makes me want to play the game. I'm In the mood to be frustrated.
My friend has Ikaruga on Wiiware. The colour switching mechanic is really nice - quite an entertaining twist.Have you ever heard of Warning Forever? Also, no doubt you've heard of and played Cactus' Shmups. You mean NaNoWrimo? Only MayNoWrimo? Yeah go do that.
The funny thing about this game is that no matter how frustrated I get with it, I always come back to it. Shoot-em-ups like this are the definition of a high replay value (if you don't mind a little blood, sweat, and tears).
I've heard of Cactus's games, but haven't played them at all. Any links? Or will Google do the job?The best shmups I've ever played are the following.
R-TypeDarius GaidenG-DariusGalactic AttackCho Ren Sha (this one's free)Hyperwars [GM game by 9_6…hard as fk]I'd throw Solar Blue on the list too if it was done and wasn't impossible. The thing is, space shooters are pretty overdone, and I like seeing the games where you don't have to be a spaceship fighting enemy ships. Same goes for 1945 games. The exception of course, is Ikaruga, because of its unique gameplay. Are any of those listed shoot-em-ups unique in any way (too lazy to Google)?
Each is unique in it's own way, but not the extent you're thinking.
I'll just simplify it.R-Type: Crazy level design and epic enemies.Darius Gaiden: You can use the enemies to your advantage.G-Darius: Same as above, except better this time aroundGalactic Attack: Your normal space shooter, but it has multi-lockon missiles.Cho Ren Sha: Just the way the enemies work…Hyperwars: Eh….uh…You'd have to Youtube these to see what I mean. And by "shifts," I meant "ships." My bad.
There should be a shmup but reversed…You play as a giant disembodied hand that's jutting out from the sky with god-rays galore. And your attacks include swatting the shit out of anything, or dragging your index finger across the land destroying anything in its path. Or, or. Special attacks where you turn your hand into a gun gesture and shoot a giant laser.
The enemy tries to do anything they can do destroy said "god-hand" but can't. And your goal is to rack up as many points as possible in a set amount of time.Or not.I've actually played with the idea of a shoot-em-up where you're the boss. You know, I think I'll make it.
