S4D - Hobo Get!

…Yeah. Not scary. Not terrific. It won't fit the horror theme like so many people are going for. But a screenshot means I'm still in the game. For now. Also, looks much better in motion.

Still down to the wire here. I might not make it, and if I don't, I'll probably drop out on the due date. Grinding my little heart to its nonexistent bone and I've made enough progress that it's possible, but little enough to be discouraged in the face of that evil demon called school.

Anyway, what you see here is pretty much the majority of the game. You're essentially the bad guy (or her servant), taking orders and finding people to mark for her to kill later. After a little tracking (in order to find the right target), you catch them alone and start channeling on them, during which both you and they are stunned. So if anyone else comes by that you forgot about, you might be fucked.

Fucked.

So yeah, not a horror game. Aren't you disappointed!

Though I guess I should mention that you're being hunted by something that wants your soul. Yeah. And you pretty much can't get caught outside because if it sees you, you're fucked. Yeah.

Yeah.

Looks good. I've been having to program like nuts these last few days, and I'm still not sure how great my project will turn out.

Can't follow that screenshot, so I'll just take your word for it and wait to see it in action d:

I looked at that and thought "Hey! All the other contestants' games aren't looking as good as I expected! It doesn't look scary at all! I might have a chance of winning!"

Then I opened up mine and realized it was even worse. :<

I guess that's what happens with time-limited games made by one person. Only three and a half more days too…

Yeah, when it comes to timed events, you have to emphasize on one or two things (sacrificing from others) or lose quality from all of them. I chose to emphasize music, and so, I have a few tracks I like, but not enough. My graphics took a big hit (not that I expected them to be good anyway), and I've never tried to write something scary before.

On top of that, the game's actually moderately complex. There are about 30 characters with dynamic schedules and dialog, and the main game mechanic of being stealthy and killing them relies on your previous performance as well. For example, if you fucked up a moment ago trying to kill someone, they'll become alert and surround themselves with people. What a pain to program.

But I still look forward to seeing everyone else's entries, though I'm more interested in seeing those that aren't trying to be scary, namely those that fit the Halloween theme and not much else. Mostly because the former is difficult to do effectively and I don't have high expectations in that regard.

And borderline impossible in a 2D side view game.

Hence the influx of 3D games. But since GM sucks at 3D, I don't have high expectations for those, either.

Come on, people. Surprise us.

But… That was a very un-mocking "hah!"
