It's been a while since I've posted a more serious, non-competition-related blog, so here I am again, feeling quite inspired, but unsure as to where to spend that inspiration. If you'd like to help a fellow game designer, read on! I'll try to keep it as short and interesting as possible.
Right now I'm trying to decide which game to work on, and I have so many. Cyrus brought up a good point, that many of us start new games instead of finishing old ones. Well I'm going to try to at least make progress on an old one. School isn't kicking my ass this semester, so here's what I've been doing:V4D - 3D Action RPGI may have dropped out early, but I went ahead and started a game with Purianite. We're trying to work in Unity with some light topdown 3D action combat. Might be fun.Terminys - Topdown Action RPGI've been coming back to this game now and again. Recently I just worked in a new mechanic that allows players much more customization into their combat. Basically, trying to offer as much of that as possible without having them create their own character (story's a little too tight to do that). I am actually putting together a combat scene in Unity to see how it looks.Prism Soul - Bullet Hell ShooterActually thought about scrapping this, but lately, playing Taizen Chisou's Lunacy Star 2 has given me hope again. Maybe I'll find some inspiration, but it won't be from 64Digits. You bullet-hell-phobes.Lixim - Platform Action Life SimulatorOdd combination for a genre, yes? Originally Lixim was supposed to play like the Creatures games – you interact with the world through the mouse. But lately I've been wanting to put some more control into it, so I decided to do so through a protagonist. I've also been playing a bit of Terraria, so I'm beginning to wonder whether I should try procedural generation. Additionally, I'm doing some complex things like making dynamic biomes, using realistic biological concepts, and advanced AI. Overall this might be my most conceptually complex game, and maybe the most rewarding. If I do resume work on this game, I'll need a spriter/animator.64DCG - RPG ShooterAnother uncommon combination. Maybe. This was that community game I brought up back in December. I haven't forgotten about it, but the enthusiasm was a bit lacking, so I'm not quite so enthusiastic myself.64Brawl - Platform FighterCyrus has been bringing this up a lot lately. Looks like he's getting serious about it. I'll be providing help where I can, but I lost heart for this project long ago. Maybe he can get me back into it.Unnamed Online Shooter - Multiplayer Bullet Hell TDSMost of my issues here are with GM's inability to frameskip. This is the game I'd be using with AGMAPI, if I can come up with some alternate technical solutions. As for the other games, well, they'll probably be laid to rest. What was once more than a dozen projects is now seven. Spring Break is coming up soon, here, and I'd like to get back into game dev, which has been eluding me for a few months now.So would you all be dears and take a vote on which you'd like to see completed? It would really help me focus. Much appreciated.
Either Lixim or the multiplayer one because I want to see you suffer.
I'm curious how Terminys looks like with all the new changes (other than "unstable"). Another thing that got me curious is Lixim. So these two are my vote.
1.Lixim
2.Prism Soul(I was going to say "Unnamed Online Shooter". but I already don't like the idea.)I think I'm going to do this Blog type- it's a good idea.I like this sudden explosion in game making activity lately.
Maybe I'll work on putting a protagonist into a life sim today. Further input is still appreciated.
Cactus shmups were like my gateway to appreciating Touhou :x
Lixim sounds awesome, life sims all the way.
