Wishful Thinking - Road Trip

Fucking title.

I'm a writer.

Contrary to many beliefs, a lot of time and research goes into a proper story.

I've done a lot of research on my current focus, a story I'd like to finish by the end of the month as a personal challenge in the spirit of NaNoWriMo.

If anyone remembers, my writing typically follows modern supernatural themes. I've written about spirits and demons, the afterlife and godlike deities, and even a game of life and death to combat the world's descent into turmoil.

This one is about a real place, called Lost Springs, located in Wyoming. The town is essentially a ghost town, with a population of four, though the census counted no more than one. I've chosen it as the focus and setting of my newest story (well second newest), as a place that turns peoples' minds against them, and more specifically about a girl with a chronic heart condition who goes through strange mood swings whenever her pulse changes. And when her pulse is truly out of sync, she exhibits murderous and supernatural tendencies.

For my research, I want to actually go there. Google Maps/Earth both have very little information on the area. And I don't blame them. It's fucking Wyoming.

But my writing is very important to me and research is very important to writing. I've gathered that the whole trip would take eight hours and cost about $160 in gas money, and the rest of $300 for food and such. I thought about putting up a donation link, but then I remembered how much I hate donations, so maybe some moral support would help instead.

I live in Ogden, Utah. Lost Springs is located on the fucking eastern side of Wyoming.

This will give you an idea.

I'm not sure exactly when this would happen, but I'd hope before the end of the summer, or maybe when gas started going down, which would probably be winter, which I don't want to wait for. I'd certainly want to do it before it started going up.

Who knows? Maybe even next week.

I'd visit the town, the mines, the railroad, and a couple nearby cities like Douglas. Probably stay for three or four days, bring a camera and a sketchpad…. And I'll probably encounter many rattlesnakes, so boots.

So whenever this happens, wish me luck. And if anyone for any fucking reason lives along that path I linked, then God help you maybe I'll swing by and bring you a fucking doughnut.

Hard mode: pack supplies and live in one of the abandoned houses until the free-range solitary confinement does permanent damage to your mental health.
