Teamspeak Terraria - Hardmode

Posted by Castypher on July 21, 2012, 4:04 p.m.

So we've been sitting with this server up for what, a good week now? And we're not in hardmode for various reasons, most of which is that people aren't geared up for it. Competition is kind of high right now, and with the recent Underworld flood, the highest tier items were unavailable.

Tonight is Teamspeak night, and I'd like to make the transition into hardmode. Tonight we fight the Wall of Flesh and change the world forever.

It's not that the Wall of Flesh is stupid hard and needs a ton of people. But it'd be a nice gear check, a reason to band together, and it'd prepare people for the challenges to come. Besides, it has a lot of health per player and would be a lot more fun.

Spawn will still be relatively safe, and I promise you that you can still AFK in your houses provided they're close enough, unless of course it turns out to be a blood moon, in which case you fucking hide.

While I want everything to be more or less legitimate, I understand that people are going to inevitably fall behind due to lack of playing time or something. In the hour or so before we fight the Wall of Flesh, I'll be seeing to it personally that people are equipped and ready to go, even if it requires less conventional means.

That doesn't mean I'm going to spawn the highest tier gear for everyone. But I might make the items more easily obtainable to teach people to make it for themselves. Even if you're geared up, you'll need potions and accessories. And if you've got higher end gear, consider getting a decent reforge on it too.

So what do you say? Are we ready?

Should we make the transition into hardmode tonight, thus changing the world into a much more dangerous, but more exciting place?

Majority vote wins.

Oh, and if you haven't already, now would be the time to pick your class.

- Mage

- Warrior

- Ranger

And finally, once we finish with this world, we'll take a break from events for a while. Then when we have a good enough excuse, we'll start with something that's outside of your typical gameplay.

IT'LL BE FUN GUISE I SWARE

I wanted to be a Mage, but I'm not in a position to grind.

Is this game really for me? Am I doing something wrong?

Castypher 12 years, 4 months ago

It's not really even that grindy. There's no experience, just bosses and gear to be obtained. If you joined now, you'd skip several levels of gear.

The game's not for everyone, so if it's not for you, no big deal. Just don't sit here insulting it when others enjoy it. Everyone likes different things and if you don't enjoy the game, we're not going to bash you for it.

If you want to try again, you're certainly welcome. Talk to me and I'll get you set up. And if not, that's fine.

I totally want in, what time?

Also I have to make a new character because of reasons. Should I just gear up to the highest pre-hardmode stuff?

Edit:Also, Ranger… I guess? Do grenades count for that?

Castypher 12 years, 4 months ago

The only reason I don't count demolitionist as a class is because there's no gear or accessory that really emphasizes it. But if you want to use grenades, go for it. I just suggest picking a secondary because grenades are a bit situational. And as for your character, yeah, if you have the gear on another world, go ahead and bring it. If not, we'll get you suited up.

As far as the time goes, I'd say two or three hours, depending. If two, I won't be there for the first bit (probably).

If I do end up "giving" gear though, it probably won't be the highest tier. For example, I might spawn Eater of Worlds a few times to get people their demonite and shadow scales, or jungle/meteor/necro armor or something. Why? Because first, that'd make WoF too easy if everyone had the best armor, second, other armor is better suited for ranger and mage classes, and last, a lot of people worked hard to get their gear and would probably find it unfair if others just got it for nothing.

Maybe I'll make you all run an obstacle course.

Oh, I was just going to see how far I could get in a solo world first, and get 'quips from that.

I'm on a different computer, you see.

I'm sort of between Warrior and Ranger…

My body is ready.

Ranger is good for bosses, warrior is good for mobs, mage is good for… support?

Anyway, I'm kind of tied up at the moment, but should this sort of thing take place again in the future, you can surely count on me. Have fun beating WOF.
