Alerns.

I've been doing all kinds of stuff lately.

Mostly nothing.

I have also been working on my new game project. Working title is Credence Filter, and it's about a dude who's the chosen one. I like this concept because it brings to light the idea that most games ignore, that your character is the most important character in the game.

The scripts are getting a bit convoluted. The player can pick up different items, and I wanted each of the items to have their own set of player animations associated with them. For instance, when you're holding a weapon, all the protagonist's displayed sprites are of your character holding that weapon. The way I set this up to actually work is needlessly convoluted.

Anyways, one of my favorite things to do is use the S tag design aliens. Also, I just like aliens. Here's a concept I made for the friendly aliens in Credence Filter.

The design is admittedly inspired by Half-Life (particularly the Nihilanth). I wanted them to look strange and otherworldly, but not frightening. I'm a bit iffy on the color scheme, but I like the logo I designed even though it doesn't really represent anything.

Also, I made a shitty song. It seems as though the more I attempt to make music the worse my ability to make music gets. I'll probably end up bothering someone else to make music for this game.

Yeah that's all I got.

Like the alien idea there, I'd be curious as to how their organs are arranged though (i.e. is there some kind of system of gas sacs for propulsion/locomotion, how does the vertical ribcage work into the spinal cord - if its nervous system actually has a spinal cord, why the air intakes are pointing upwards where stuff can fall into them)

Not a biologist or anything so my understanding of said kinds of things is high school level. I imagine jellyfish anatomy might be applicable in some respects though.

Song isn't that bad…feels like it's building up to something. Like maybe in another piece in the game it breaks out into more of melodic stuff? idk

Sounds like a good place to use a switch statement

I didn't actually think about this kinda stuff too much. Maybe their nervous system skips the middle-man and their nerves are attached directly to their brains, or a gland beneath their brains.

I imagine there's like a catch-basin in there, and anything that gets stuck gets absorbed or disintegrated or ejected. These kinds of things usually fall under the suspension of disbelief.

Haha, since when does practicality factor into design

i also love the s tag

Dude, I would so make music for your games!

But then I'd go and toss them into the bin because I can't compose music anyway.

I want the music to be ambient with minimal percussion. I want strange overlaying instruments characterized by digital interference. MP3s. If you can do that, then I'd be all for letting you make music for the game.

wireless nervous system? I like the sound of that

could be confusing with multiple aliens though

(if two of them have nervous systems tuned to the same frequency, shenanigans happen :D )

since SCIENCE happen'd

No, I mean nerves would travel throughout their tissue to the base of the brain. Although I considered the wireless idea first, before I replied, and came to the same problem. It's weird we… had the same exact thought there.

I actually knew what you meant and extrapolated…backwards?

Evidently we were thinking along the same frequencies lines.

lol c wut i did thar

I should start encrypting my brainwaves.

I wonder what the effects would be if I were to operate a microwave next to one.
