New Era of Games

<table width=100%><tr><td style="background: transparent url(http://64digits.com/users/DesertFox/header_line.PNG) repeat-x scroll 0%; width:100%; height: 24px;"><h2 style="color:black">A Few Standards</h2></td></tr></table>Well, I'm a mod. A game mod. *ponders* Hmmmm…

So, here's how its going to work. You all have to give me cookies. Lots of cookies. And pie, and cake. Various foods and such. You have to do this, or else. Else what? I don't know. But I'll think of something.

On the subject of game acceptance, I swear to tell then truth, the right to remain silent, one nation indivisible, till death do us part. I am going to accept things according to certain standards. Simple examples are not going to cut it anymore, stuff like "simple platfromor example" which just have a guy walking around and jumping, with set-height jumping and set-speed walking. You are going to need to make it worth downloading. Same goes for games. If I feel that there was effort put into it, I'll accept it. If its fun, interesting, and worth downloading, have no fear.

A lot of people say that the standards need to be stricter. When a game is denied, the author gets an email - hopefully soon Melee will implement the 'also automatically sends a PM the same as the email' idea we were talking about. In these messages, I'll always explain exactly why it was denied, and how to fix it, if possible.

If I see something that I feel has promise, but needs work, I'll send that person a PM with a few suggestions, as well as other possible sources of help. Hopefully, this will increase the quality of accepted items.

Examples need to be exactly that - something that you can learn from. Stuff like 'omg jump example' doesn't work anymore. Examples need to be something new - something original and helpful. If you say to yourself 'I made this in like 5 minutes' don't send it in. If you made it in 5 minutes, chances are so could anyone else. There are of course exceptions, but those are people like FredFrederickson. I've also seen some WIPs that are far too early to be submitted. There needs to be some sort of gameplay for a wip. Having a menu and a 1 room level that you can explore in 5 seconds, with no enemies - that is not a wip. That is a tech demo, an engine.

So blah. I've got some standards, and I'm going to use them. Don't worry, I won't just deny everything. If you are borderline, I will probably send you a PM asking if you would rather have me deny it or just remove the preview pic and accept it, or if you have a better version than when you submitted it.

>_>

Damn the new GM7 examples being different. I got tricked into accepting one. *looks at GM7 examples so it doesnt happen again*

I know that he isn't known very well. I knew who he was, and I know that he's a stable person, and has never gotten into trouble on 64D. I realize he was an unexpected choice, but at least give him a chance to prove himself. Don't you think it would suck if someone like you became a mod, and everyone was like "Who the hell is [egretfillet]?" "I've never heard of him"

<table width=100%><tr><td style="background: transparent url(http://64digits.com/users/DesertFox/header_line.PNG) repeat-x scroll 0%; width:100%; height: 24px;"><h2 style="color:black">Class</h2></td></tr></table>I just found out that one of the Liberal Arts courses that I can take is Literature and Technology. It has 5 books required reading. Guess what? They are sci-fi, or related =)

One of the books is 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep' - the novel that Bladerunner was based on! Another is Neuromancer. How interesting. I'm going to take that class next year. It looks awesome.

I hate the usertag. It always gets me for a second then my brain catches up.

Nice job on the modship and I like the standards!

It's a good thing that's the usertag, because it would make no sense otherwise. [;)]

That got me for a second. I've been around here for a while…

Oh no! The usertags are attacking!

And now my typical comment on games queue/accepting/whatever:

Since I don't submit anything, I don't care.
