So today I had a barbeque with some friends, which was awesome. Burgers, Doritos, and Mountain Dew - tasty yum yum. Anyways, what made this awesome was the fact that afterwards, we went boffing. That is, we stood around for around 2 1/2 hours chasing each other and hitting each other with large foam swords - aka boffs, and boffing.
We had 3 types of swords - longswords (one-handed, sort of long, middling in weight), a greatsword (two-handed massive death havoc, heavy but slow if used improperly) and the wonderful dual-short-swords (fast, and excellent for blocking) which I loved. I ended up dual-wielding the shortswords most of the time, but also was pretty effective with the greatsword due to my odd style of holding it to my hip, blade pointed directly backwards, making it difficult to see the weapon, and hard to predict any sort of attack I'd make. So, in a word, smacking friends with large foam swords is an awesome fun time.
I like to use a combination of a zweihander (6' in length - massive! Can knock other people's weapons away if swung right) and a katzbalger (only 2') for close defense - stuck in a belt when not in use. Our weapons were wood-centered, though - foam only on the outsides.
That sounds fun. Too bad I have no idea where to get those.
I did that with friends sometimes when I was younger… Only they were real… o_O
Heh, seriously though, sounds like fun. :)Ours are pvc pipe covered in foam pipe insulator - we made them ourselves. Well, more Kats and Caleb made them.
Boffing's fun!
Also,Too bad they were only foam…
Man, I want one.
Huh. That still sounds really familiar - our foam was long - i guess pipe insulator - tubes (very dark gray foam) with a crack down one side, wrapped around either wood (for swords) or pvc pipe (for spears etc.) We had a campus-wide event with them one day in mid-April…
…as a wild guess, do you know anyone who goes to Wheaton College?i know people who shoot each other with bbguns o_0
And where might this word boff originate from?
