Also, does anyone know where I can get some good 8-bit sound effects? Or how I can make some?

I found a couple tools a while ago that you may find useful.

I think sfxr is something you might want. It's fun to play with and produces some really good and varied old-style sound effects. Musagi is another tool on the same page for synthesizing music, but I haven't messed with that one too much.
