World Cup

I love football, but I bet not many people do on this site because the majority seems to be American (not that that's a bad thing). What I mean by football is "soccer", as you call it in North America. I've played football for eight years now.

As you know, the world cup takes place every four years. There are different zone names for the different continents, and after each world cup finishes, a zone is selected. In that zone, the countries interested in hosting get listed. Then the country that will host is selected. Germany hosted the last one, which Italy sadly one (I was supporting France in the finals). The next one (in 2010) is in South Africa. I was mad at this and a little sceptical at first, but South Africa is going through a lot of trouble to build new stadiums to accomodate fans for the matches. Good for South Africa, I think. The 2014 world cup is going to be in Brazil. And the 2018 might be in the states, but it has not been decided yet.

In the last world cup (germany - 2006), America did surprisingly well. A 1-1 tie against Italy (who later went on to become the winners) really surprised me. I didn't know people like football in America. I think if America wants to get recognized in the football world, they will have to start doing more transfers like the famous "Beckham" one. And also start selling some of their star players to teams outside of the US.

OK, that's my blog about the world cup. I look forward to watching the matches in 2010, and hopefully going to them in 2014 when I finish school.

I also changed my avatar. No more chicken-scratch!

I know lots of Americans that play football (well, soccer). The ones I do are like you though: they play it, but don't follow it.

I don't much care for soccer, I play American Football. I do have some cousins who love soccer though. =)

Joshua stood outside the walls of Jericho

He then took out his vuvuzela and BLEW!
The walls of Jericho came tumbling down, and South Africa won the 2010 World Cup bid.

Omega: I never understood how American football worked. It's so confusing…

F1ak3r, you must me happy that South Africa is hosting. You're so lucky you can see the games live… *jealousy* :D

Inf1u3nza: Hey! I was the one who noticed that. Or was that you?

I don't usually believe in coincidences, but this must be one. Unless it's a CONSPIRACY

Coincidence is just an illusion :D

2014's cup is going to be in Brazil? Haha, that means they won't win that year. Good, I despise the brazilian soccer team.
