Not a Good-bye Blog

It’s been nearly a month since I last wrote something.

Okay, moving on.

What I’ve been up to

I haven’t worked on my own game too much recently. I’ll get to that later. Fabio is nearing completion with his exploration-platformer. You play as a little guy who has to rid a person of a virus, while jumping around inside their body. The game is simple, like its name: Body. Don’t let this fool you, however. Even in the demo it becomes quite challenging.

What does this have to do with me? I offered to do the music for the game, and Fabio kindly accepted. I’m looking forward to playing the complete game in the future.

Check out the Body WIP here.

Check out the Body website here.

My Own Game

I’ve also been working on my own game. It’s a very short exploration game. You probably wouldn’t expect an exploration game to be short, but this one is. For the game, I got a lot of inspiration from Seiklus. I suppose most exploration games with game-maker do. It’s called canyon. It’s been worked on for about a week. The graphics are unique in style, and the game has a one-song soundtrack. I don’t really know what else to say about the game, except for the story. You basically play as a cowboy/explorer guy who is lost in the desert. Using only the arrow keys, you have to find civilization again. That’s pretty much it. I’ll give some screenshots later, but here is the title screen. It will give you somewhat of an idea about what the graphics are going to be like.

"Leaving" (please don't tag this, it's not permanent)

I’m not really leaving 64digits and game making, I’m just actually taking a break. A long break. I got tinnitus a few months ago, and spending most of my time on the computer is not helping it one bit. It’s taken a real toll on me, so if you don’t know what it is, read up on it. I’ll be away a month at the least, but expect it to be longer. I’m planning on finishing up any games I’m helping with before I go, so I cause no problems. I’ve met some great people here and have had lots of fun making games/music/graphics and whatnot. I hope you all continue to make fun games of high quality. In the short time I’ve been here, I’ve seen 64d go through a lot. It’s definitely one of my favorite communities, and I hope it never goes down.

So long, everyone.

Come back soon! Now I'm gonna go read up on tinnitus (spelt?).

Report back: I spelt it right. Yay!

Anyway, tinnitus is a name for the symptom of ear-ringing, cause by a number of things like foriegn objects and loud noises.

Source: Wikipedia

Anyway, that must be terrible. I'd hate to have my ears ringing all the time.

It took me 8 minutes to figure out that was a cactus. Please take a little more time on graphics. Tighten them up plz.

Are you blind or just dumb? It took me about 7 and a half minutes.

mathiusman 16 years, 10 months ago

It took me about 7 and a half seconds.

It took me about 7 and a half hours.

Don't do drugs kids. :(

And you're all WRONG, since it's not a cactus. Duh. Can't you see it's a hand of Abe from Oddworld?

I hope you're not abandoning me here, but goodbye and have fun with whatever else you're doing that's not 64digits (and hopefully not tinnitus-related problems - ears are so scary when they get sick). That's my not-a-goodbye :)
