I'm back from a very long… long car trip.

School is (sadly) starting again for me the week after this. It's not that I don't like school, it's just that I don't like most of the teachers there. The ones that can't teach for their lives… >_>

Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze in some more gm related things in the week of freedom that remains.

I had this French teacher last year that had a serious grudge against me. And she was also one of the worst teachers I have ever encountered. Now teaching any language is no easy job, but you couldn't get this bad if you tried. I won't go into detail because I won't.

I think it's time I change my avatar as the current one is getting rather annoying. Why, I'm having a hard time typing this with some boxy lil mothafucka grinning a nervous grin at me. But then there's Alistaire at the top giving me a motivating look with his gay orange Edgar Davids-esque glasses. I think I'll make a pixelportrait of him (of Ali, cos I has respek) and use that instead. Kind of an improvement.

Progress?

You're so good with banners, maybe you should apply that style to avatars.

Respek… shouldn't that rather be restecp? ;p

Also, your avater at RoboSquid rocks, so maybe a good one for the change? =)

Ta-da

Having quite the lazy, I've made little progess as usual. Put shading on hold for a while (I kind of gave up on it) and did more thinking about shading styles. It's easier to start over than to finish and start over. The style I like best is circled, and the reason I like this particular style is the bolty look. Bolts and welded things (even abnormally large ones) always look good in steampunk I think, as opposed to gritty. Perhaps a contrast of gritty and bolty symmetry would work out nicely, come to think of it. Steampunk after all is on the border of big changes in technology (which obviously includes architecture and building materials). Tell me what you're thinking ;)

Oh, and some fat unwanted bricks are in there as well. I was debating whether a brickwork pattern would work out. Obviously the bricks are too large, but then again, having all those bricks would make the layer motion noisy, distracting, and annoying.

Thank you =) That's a good idea.

"Rocks" is a good way to put it =) I wish I had made it, though :(

Gritty has more standing when it comes to the shading the whole thing. But yes, bolts and gears are a good feel. We could place some animated gears on some buildings perhaps (Perhaps make the dome thing a clock tower?)

The chimney shading shows the nice look of gritty bricks

Okay, I'll just be blunt. The shading style you had going was epic win that should be paraded around the streets of the world in a show of world peace through one thing that all the nations of the world can agree is awesome. You deny that shading, and you deny world peace

(Also I've just zoomed in and found that it is indeed 1bit color. I'll start working from the right if I can figure out how to emulate the shading in a (human?)pseudorandom way)

…And you need to write a doc or something for how you're shading

If I'm to turn to code the shading, I'll have to know what kind of magic tricks your pulling off

Good points there. Perhaps some more "futuristic" looking parts bolted and welded and the rest grittied up. A clocktower sounds really great (I see you've already made a start). How can you get more steampunk than that?

I thought so too. That should definitely stay.

Sure, if it was anything but it would seem a lot more blurrier with grays. Anyway, that much contrast is nice I think. Blurriness and AA would take away from the grit. By doc you mean tutorial yes? I'll do that

Lot better

s 16 years, 3 months ago

Too dense, especially since it breaks the direction of the light

ESA 16 years, 3 months ago

Still better. But is dense. Try to make it about 3 or 4, even 5 lines thick (the dithering of course), otherwise it seems to thick. You seem to have about 6 or 7 by the looks of it. Even 5 may be a bit thick. Even my own dithering is kind of thick… makes it look like a gritty pillow.
