I signed up for this contest with very little experience in game programming. I have done basic games ( a catch game, a snake like game, a very small rpg etc.) in multiple languages. This first game I ever made was for my TI-82 i believe in high school. I have been fascinated with programming ever since.
I have recently ( 3 months ago) started learning java in the hopes of someday building apps for cell phones. I do not expect to win or even place in this competition. I only hope to have a playable game that is fun for all who decide to try it out.I will be building everything from scratch to help improve my skills and confidence with the language. This includes the map editor, art and everything else needed to make my game playable. I hope that I don't embarrass myself or my fellow competitors. I am excited to see what everyone comes up with while I try and figure out how to stop my game from crashing for three months. The challenge is great for me as is the reward if my goals are accomplished. I’m curious what tools everyone is using for this comp, and if I’m the only one using java. Thanks again for reading. I’m excited to get started. Now time to start some research…..
My brother(Geemili) will be coding in Java as well. I'm the art/design department for the game. Good luck! Hope you learn something from this.
I'm going to be using GM8 for coding it because it's the only thing I'm familiar enough with to do something of this scale, and
I'm keeping LAR Games locked in my basement until he makes graphics for meLAR Games is gonna do graphics for it.I've been programming in Gamemaker for a while and have been scripting RPG's for a few years now.
I'm interested to see what you come up with.Me too. I'm starting to think of all that needs to be done. I'm excited and a little nervous. I hope my family doesn't miss me for the next three months. I hope they still recognize me in August.
Oh yeah… I forgot about life…
Oh well, last two months of high school aren't important anyway, right? Also new people really need get avatars so I can tell them apart. The "proper" language I've got most experience with is Java, and I might even be able to grab a graphics library and do stuff with it, but I'd rather stick with GM8.
Welcome to 64Digits. =)
You seem a little too concerned about the competition, haha. The competitions on 64D started as (and still are) a way to have some fun and motivate people to make some games.I'll be using GM8, I've been learning Java but since game making is just a hobby for me I have no reason to get skills comparable to GM in any other game making language.
Yeah, what kilin said. =3
