Nebraska Newton Devlog #2 - "Weapons"
Hello and welcome to the second in this series of daily devlogs. Today I'll be discussing the various weapons in the game.
Prologue
Weapons. They're a part of a lot of games. Including this one. Because you'll need weapons to deal with the nasty little critters in this game.
I don't want this game to be completely focused around gunplay, and as such, none of the weapons will be rapid fire. Shots will be carefully-placed affairs, not wildly blasted sprees.
Chapter 1 - "Types"
There won't be too many different types of weapons in this game, because I just don't have the time. But the weapons that will be there will be effective, such that you won't want others.
Revolver. The revolver is Nebraska's basic, start-off weapon. It is powerful, but slow, and with a small number of chambers.
Rifle. The rifle is like the revolver, except with a shorter delay time between shots, a bigger clip, and slightly less power.
Ladder Gun. The game's special weapon. Similar to Ice's ice power, except with ladders. This idea just came to me, when thinking about how ESA's ladder sprite didn't fit with an ancient temple. Thanks ESA!
Chapter 2 - "Implementation"
The weapons will be placed usefully in certain levels, where the player will pick them up and be taught how to use them.
Something I'm debating right now is whether or not to have "gun-hitting" (the ability to hit things with your gun). I could do it, but it may be more trouble than it's worth. Ah well, I'll see what I feel like doing when I get to it.
Chapter 3 - "Goals"
Yesterday's goals were to implement switches and make at least one level. I'm glad to say I completed them. I COULD have made two levels, but load-shedding cut a good 3.5 hours out of yesterday's devtime.
Goals For Today
Get all weapons, including the ladder gun, to work. The revolver's already in, it's just the other two. The rifle'll be easy, I'll just need to alter some values. The ladder gun may prove more difficult.
Make at least one level. If all goes well, I'll be making the level where the ladder gun is introduced today.
Epilogue
And with that, I bid you adieu. I shall return tomorrow with more progress behind me. Wish me luck!
F1ak3r
Sounds good, but one small mistake in there. Revolvers don't use clips, you put in the bullets into that circular chamber (6 bullets in total). I'll do some spriting soon.
Ah, right. Replace "clip" with "number of chambers".
Fixed.
LAWLZ.
Sounds guud!
@Esa Some revolvers can hold 8 or 9@Whoever he is this week: WHAT ARE YOU LAUGHING AT?!
@Cpsgames: Thanks ^_^. Your praise is appreciated.Revolver: Meh, cliché
Rifle: Meh, clicéLadder gun: Yes, YES!Ladder gun sounds like a great gameplay concept, could lead to some great exploration and puzzling, and quite tactical combat, too!You are right, PY. But I'll try to make up for the cliché-ness of the revolver and rifle in other ways. And I may just put a few more weapons in. Non-cliché ones.
I've just finished coding the ladder gun, and it's awesome. Who wouldn't want a gun that shoots ladders? It's funny calling things cliche when your name has Phazon in it. Never mind.
F1ak3r: How about a gun that shoots guns? Now who wouldn't want that? :DThat's actually an awesome idea, ESA. Just think about it…
