GM, and Programming in General

————————————–

For those of you who have been reading my blogs lately, I have decided on Java, and bought a book on it from borders titled, "Beginning Java 5 Game Programming." I havent read much of it yet, but it looks promising. Hopefully, i'll finish the book, and the game you make along the way, by christmas, so i'll be able to make something on the laptop im getting.

I've lost interest in most of my projects already, in little less than a month. I've been working on a platform shooter a little bit and it actually looks pretty good. This is the only project I have interest in at the moment, and i truly don't think i'll lose interest any time soon. So far I've got basic movement down, animations done for 3 guns, shooting, and thats about it. I want it to be where you have a bomb and you have to make it to a certain point and plant the bomb, like in counterstrike. This is what i have so far regarding the game as far as ideas-

Weapons (so far)

——————-

-Smg

-Pistol

-Shotgun

-Uhm standard rifle (starting weapon prolly)

-rockets

-frag grenades

-sniper rifle

Genaral Concept

——————-

-Modern day platform shooter, where in each level, you either must make it to a certain location on the map to plant the bomb, or find a certain member on the other team, the "vip," and kill them.

I want this game to be able to be played in either offline mode with bots, or in online multiplayer 4v4. The only problem is i've never programmed an online eneabled game in my entire life. I was wondering if anyone would be will to work with me on this game, and if we get more than one person, then we would technically have a little team together to work on this game. Oh Btw, i said that i was learning java at the beginning of this blog, but this game will be 100% gm. So i guess i was wondering if anyone wanted to work with me on this game?

Java is shitty and slow and I would consider learning for C++ if you want to get into game programming. As for losing interest, you should choose something that actually challenges you as it is the only way to stay motivated. One way to do this is when making the game if you want to add something but think you can't, MAKRE SURE TO ADD IT IMMEDIATELY!

Max,I've seen quite a few threads about what stops games from being completed and I've never seen the point of already knowing how to program it

Honestly maxcore that made like no sense lol. Regarding the game tho, i want this game to be like a 2d counterstrike type game, except without buy zones, (so the weapons will be placed in certain locations on the map.) I'm good at spriting and stuff, and like i said, have the basic movement done. When i hopefully get a team together we can start working on ai, and network code. Don't think i'm just gonna blow you off after you help me either. I want this game to be sort-of a group project, and if it's good we could startup a little online game "company."
