My first blog entry.

Wow. Well, I decided I should actually start one of these.

I've been here for a bit, and mostly I use 64D for examples, and uploading files, but soon, I'll be releasing an actual game here. I think I'll use this blog entry to conveniently advertise it to you.

Well, it's called 'Contagion'. It's about a global virus that spreads rampantly, and you are the only one left. You hop into your trusty Seradur, and fight the Zeta virus.

That would be the story-line. It's a TDS. How is it unique? Well, this top-down game adds a new feature that I have never seen in a TDS before; height. You can jump on crates, shoot enemies from afar, crawl up buildings, swim through murky waters, crawl up hills, and more.

Well, that's it, I guess. Look for it soon. I'll be posting here with updates. Peace.

Well, it looks like some one either A) Stole my Zeta name or B) Knows a little bit of the Greek alphabet. I'm aiming towards B on this one, because Zeta it a good name! Though we will never know who had it first.

And for good reason, height is hard to produce convincingly in a top down environment, the only way it should be attempted would be in a 3D TDS engine - but then you have the argument that with a 3D TDS the 3D element is wasted.

Good luck though.

O_o, wow, good luck with that :|

er I mean, well…

It is possible, it'd probably be more like fake hieght though, just numbers, right?

Thanks for your comments. Anyway, here's how I'll be attempting height in this game. So far, it's been turning out really well. Your Seradur can jump, or 'hover' above the ground for short times. The visual effect is simple- I increase the image_xscale and image_yscale when 'in the air'. Each item has a different 'height', and you can only get on certain items if your height level is equal to it. It was actually very simple to do, and adds so much to the gameplay. (Strategy, and plain old fun.)

Oh, and BenRK, in a lot of my games, I use the pilot's alphabet (Alpha, Beta, etc.) and the Greek alphabet a lot for name inspiration. :)

I guessed as much.
