Sick and tired of my F4D game, and an aside on Python

Hey. Well I've been programming away at my game for some time, off and on as the story goes, around all the wonderful Christmas events I've been attending. I decided to make one last video for the game to show off my progress and came up with this…

After I compiled the footage I realized it's pretty meh, little having changed since the last video, where someone exclaimed there wasn't any fun to be had. Well, rejoice; it's still not that fun. However, I am tired of it. I'm going to be slapping some storyboards on the front and back of this title and throwing it out into the internet cold.

change list:

- collectable crystals extend time limit

- collectable axe allow player to vaporize trees… just cause I got tired of trees :)

- jarring events will stir player awake in bed

- destroying crystal tree causes end-game scenario

- sound effects and contextual music

- blur (from Obelisk's suggestion [can't see it in video cause the FRAPS trial only records at 30 fps {I enjoy squiggly braces… but seriously, I should invest in the full version of FRAPS</rabbit trail>}])

- a little shinier

- I should have just made a free ski clone.

Oh yeah, I guess I haven't emerged since I there was a gigantic blog done up with my comment about Python on the top followed by streams of alphanumeric tears, and then I got some hate (this was some time before Christmas break). Since then I've made up with the person I hurt. Anyway, why don't we just talk about

Me and Python:

I refute the semi-literal interpretation of the statement I made that "python is a dead end road". It was for me, but not necessarily for anyone else. If you want to see what I made in python you can go here. Be aware that python and pygame are required for most of them… also, don't read the source code; you'll have a heart attack. My games ended up running too slow, and being super painful to turn into .exe's. EOF

Actually, this looks pretty fun! I love sandbox-looking games, and watching you climb a tree and fall from unimaginable heights and set things on fire looks pretty nice to me. :)

Yeah I was playing my game again, and … I like it.

Guess I just need a break.

If you update the version in my dropbox, I can test it on my laptop for you.

If anything you should have some pride in the fact that you were an accomplice in the creation of one of the best blogs I can remember reading. Bleh.

Also that game isn't game maker is it, it's unity or something, right?

c++, sdl and opengl.

Looks nice by the way. Has bobbing camera n trees n errything.

Somehow the axe strikes me as a bit of a dark twist though. D:

That looks neat. Definitely has some potential, although I didn't quite get a grasp on motivations/goals of the game. You should make a 3D-model of that monster from SkiFree and have him hunt the player down or something.
