I was perusing the site the other day, and got a couple ideas for things that I feel would help make the site stronger, so I figured I'd post about it. Perhaps one of the admins who is working on the project might be able to confirm / deny / etc. some of my thoughts! Anyway, without further ado, here are my suggestions, in no particular order:
· Favorite user list - either make it so you can organize them in whatever way you want (a la myspace) or make them default to alphabetical. Maybe even have the favorite user list show you when the people on that list have an unread blog posted?· A better blog list - give blogs a tab up at the top of the site, let people see them in chronological order, and show when they were posted and who by. Maybe even allow uses to sort this blog list in order by username or title… or search through them to only see those made on a certain day, by a certain range of people, etc. Searches in general could stand to be improved, now that I think of it.· Add a code snippet repository. I know this is a lot like examples, but this is an area of GM dev that almost all sites lack… and 64D could offer a very unique service by adding a searchable database of code snippets, as I am sure it would fill up fast· Games / Examples / etc. organization - Make the Genre for games into a drop-down menu, so games can be categorized and sorted. But don't stop there, add more information that can be used as search / organization criteria, like file size, GM version, etc. Utilize your database!· Make the badges make more sense. Perhaps I'm missing something, but by and large, the badges (while cool looking) do not reflect what they are awarded for. I also think there should be more badges created for actual GM accomplishments (maybe like GMClans and their challenges?). And also, the less custom, random, useless badges, the better.· More dynamic images - I think it'd generate a lot of interest in the site if you could have your own dynamic banner with your name, avatar, users stats, and badges. This stuff is one of 64D's biggest draws in my opinion, and showing it to people on other forums via a dynamic banner image would be great PR.· The obvious little fixes. Edit comments, add the deleted comment in both text boxes, etc. Make it shine.Anyway, hope you guys found at least some of that stuff useful… It might be too late to add some things, but I would really like to see some of the sloppiness of V2 cleaned up in V3, as the site is without a doubt, one of the better GM sites out there, and it should only get better. Here's another thing I wanted to post, a funny screenshot I took while working on the menu for the 3D Online Dogfighting game. Here it is, the smaller test map for the menu background, while under construction:<img src="http://www.martincrownover.com/files/barns.jpg">And finally, for all the spare time I have to make screenshots of countless barns, I am still having a hard time coming up with a suitable name for the dogfighting game. I am currently leaning towards something like these:· Aces in the Sky· Aces over ______ IslandIt's not much, really… I just usually don't name my games until after I am very far into production, and unfortunately, I am having a hard time with this one. Any suggestions would be great, and who knows, someone out there just might have a good name for this game… I am very open to suggestions!Anyway, that's a wrap. Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for any cool game names you can come up with! [:)]Suggestions for V3, goofy pic, and a name conundrum
