Jerry Seinfeld and Larry King recently had a squabble on Larry King Live, now available for your viewing pleasure on YouTube. Larry King asks Jerry Seinfeld if it is true that his show, Seinfeld, wasn’t canceled. “You didn’t give it up, right? They didn’t cancel you. You canceled them,â€? Larry says, not so much a question as a statement of fact. This seems to rub Jerry the wrong way. “You’re not aware of this,â€? he challenges, as if every Tom, Dick, and…well, Larry, should have known the minute details of Seinfeld’s cancellation. (Actually, Larry did know, he was just asking on behalf of any viewers who might not have known.)
“You think I got canceled? Are you under the impression that I got canceled,â€? Jerry demands, looking serious, as Larry attempts to interject, somewhat apologetically. Jerry is having none of it. “I thought that [Seinfeld wasn’t canceled] was pretty well-documented,â€? he adds, incredulous. “Is this still CNN?…I was the #1 show on television, Larry.â€?I don’t know what happened right before Jerry Seinfeld and Larry King’s interview. Maybe someone, say, the cat, did something bad in Jerry’s Wheaties. He comes off as possibly joking at first (â€?do you know who I am?â€?) but seems genuinely annoyed, even calling Larry to the carpet, “it’s a big difference between being canceled and being #1″ as if he were a schoolboy who hadn’t done his homework.“Okay, I’m sorry-!â€? Larry gives in.“Sheez,â€? Jerry says.Larry starts to plug Jerry’s new film, Bee Movie, while Jerry interjects, “can we get a resume in here for me? For Larry to go over…?â€?Larry King, in an attempt to go to commercial, seems to shush Jerry, who is still ranting about his resume and his ratings.Perhaps this wasn’t really a squabble, but simply a case of overblown egos, or a publicity stunt. At any rate, it’s doubtful that Jerry Seinfeld and Larry King will be tittering over tea and crumpets together, pinkies raised, at the Tavern on the Green anytime soon.
Jerry is obviously joking.
