XP/MCE/VISTA Question

Posted by GMWIZ on June 6, 2007, 8:17 p.m.

Hello people of 64 digits.com I have some questions about vista before I upgrade.

So right now I have 512 ram (I think mabye more) and 162 gigs of space

Right now I have a windows XP Media center addition

So

Q1. I have need for speed 2 and 3 and a whole bunch of old games

I need to know why they keep saying Error co;op problem or something

Q2. Will Vista Fix That for ME?

Q3. Does Vista play old games

Q4. Why does everyone hate vista?

Q5.Halo 2 and is a good reason to upgrade Should I buy that for vista or just get crysis for Xp?

Q6:Is vista glitchy?

Q7: Im also buying Vista for my dad since he bought me a computer 1 ,1/2 years ago ,is it a good gift?

Q8: does vista remind you of game maker 7? XD

but seriously

Q9: would premium make a big differece over basic?

Q10: Who owns a Vista , can you tell me how it affect your games and preformance?

Thank you for taking the time to answer these

I own vista, but I haven't installed it [:P] I am thinking about it though.

I wen to radioshack the other day and they had vista on some laptops. I tested it out and Vista was running fine so I checked the specs:

RAM: 512mb

Processor: 2.0Ghz

Video: 64mb integrated

I have at least double of everything there(I have dual core) so I was thinking about installing it.

that sounds sweet

oh I've read about dual core

theres this guy who has dual core on 32 and 64 bit windows

and the 64 bit has 2 the power of 4 time what I have

because the 32 bit had duodual core (the new thing from intel)

1: Not able to run with Vista, probably

2: I don't use ME, so I wouldn't know

3: It should, not GM games, though. Depends on compatibility, so maybe not

4: Not many older games and programs are compatible with it

5: Keep the XP disk handy and upgrade

6: Probably. I think it's just past its beta stages though, maybe still in them

7: Vista is very shiny, and comes with most new computers now. Just have him make the choice about whether or not he really wants to use it. I think it'd be a good gift

8: Actually, it does. You noticed XD

9: Uhh…probably a bit…

10: My mom owns one, but not for gaming. So I wouldn't really know

Good luck with your decision.

1: Google?

2: No.

3: Stupid question. It plays games that are compatible with it: Not all games, old or new, are.

4: Because it is, frankly, a step backward in usability and compatibility.

5: If you don't have Vista (and your computer probably can't handle Halo 2 on Vista, FYI), don't get the Vista game. And for the sake of flying cheese, don't buy an OS for ONE GAME.

6: Yes

7: Hell No

8: No.

9: Yes. The difference being that Basic is a stripped-down XP, and your computer can't run Premium.

10: People who have purchased computers with Vista or who have purchased a retail vista copy have vista. I know for a fact that Vista breaks Star Trek: Legacy, and several other games.

I'm going to go right out and say this: Judging by this blog, you are NOT computer-savvy enough to be just going out and upgrading to Vista. Don't do it.

I recently installed vista on my comp and while the glass menus and all are cool, the HUGE and I mean HUGE amount of incompatibilities where just too much for me to handle. When you upgrade to vista, you'd have to re-install just about everything from video cards and sound cards to printers. There's just too many things that don't work. Also, the way you navigate windows is significantly different so expect some serious frustration and re-adjustment.For example, the address bar in a folder doesn't show you directories any more. It now shows web pages. That means that you have to know the exact path to where you want to browse too, or you can just type in C: and then explore from there. There is a way to view the My Computer path, but it is convoluted.

Vista doesn't play old games well. The minimum resolution it supports is 800*600. I wont dip below that. What will most likely happen is that your games will not run with Vista and you will have to play them in compatibility mode.

Also, stay away from basic. Get Vista Ultimate if you can or at least premium. You will also need a good gfx card to run vista as just about everything is animated and processor intensive. Also, I don't think the amount of memory you have will be enough. Start thinking 1 gig of memory and up.

You can do what I did. If you have more than one hard drive, do a dual boot. Then you can test run Vista.

I personally like Vista in a way. It's really cool looking. It's just that right now it's not a good thing to upgrade to Vista. You want to buy a computer that already has one installed. Upgrade and you have to upgrade everything else.

Meh, no Vista for me. XP is good enough.

Flashback, many of the problems are not caused by Vista but instead caused by bad drivers. Just wait a little longer for hardware manufacturers get their asses in gear and produce compatible drivers and for Vista's kinks to be patched up. Then games should run much better.

512 MB of RAM? Consider getting at least 1 GB first. Or more.

Your computer won't be able to handle Halo 2 for Vista. Instead, just get Crysis, after upgrading your RAM.

Thanks ultim8p00, I forgot about updating all that stuff. BTW I just checked, I have Vista premium [:D] Ultimate just seems like it has much more security so I'm happy with premium.
