What's up 64 digits!

Hmm I've never done a blog before…forums I understand, but blogs? Not sure I understand the concept, but here it goes…

I'm currently In development with my first game, tentatively titled "Angel Wings". This is my first true game, although I have worked on a few engines before, one of which is complete, my platforming engine. Yes, yes, I know I could've downloaded an example from the GMC but I wanted to do the entire thing on my own for the most part, and that's what I did.

Anyway, Angel Wings has been in development for 3 and a half months, and I think I've made very good progress. One thing I think it's proven is that I love game development, and it's probably going to be a great career for me. Although it's not my first choice for the type of game I wanted to make, it has grown on me during the development process.

Angel Wings development started as my highschool senior project. I had to choose something to do a project on…at this point I hadn't really made a game on Game Maker because I hadn't had the motivation. I decided that graduating from high-school would be motivation enough.

Next, I had to decide what type of game I was going to make. At first I wanted the game to be an RPG, plus I had begun work on some of the graphics for the RPG, so that seemed to be a good choice. However, doing the senior project also required a mentor…This was a problem because I didn't know anybody with expiriance in writing computer programs. However, one day, I ran into this guy who worked at Edwards AFB and he volunteered to be my mentor.

This was all fine and dandy, but he didn't know much about programming computers because his field was more centered around aircraft engineering. So I gave up on trying to make the RPG, and began working on an aircraft simulator in Game Maker. The formulas were easy enough to write, and I had a plane zipping around in no-time.

This surprised me quite a bit, because now I could focus much more time than I had expected on the game's mechanics. Collisions didn't take long to write, and the game was well under way in about a month. There were about 3 different enemies, and I could take it to school and show it off to my friends. They liked the game alot…more than I expected, and it was at this point that I decided to turn the project into a full fledged game that I could possibly sell on the internet. The Senior Project portion of the game was done in January (I'd spent more than the required 15 hours on it), I could've, in-fact, turned the thing in and have been done with it there. But I didn't decide to do that, and the product of that decision is what you're able to see in the latest demo.

I'll post the second half of the development story of Angel Wings later. I'm tired right now.

Most new users usually make short blogs, glad to see a new member actually making a blog longer than three sentences. Welcome to 64D, make sure you read the rules and have a nice stay.

Lose your sanity! Just kidding. Try to maintain your only human attribute.

welcome and your first blog is a good nice length. Congratulations! Most people's first blogs get kicked off the front page because they lack content or are too short or both or something else that's stupid. At least this one only is a time waster.
