Any mod who thinks this is not enough content can suck my dick.

My first reply is my [lengthy] theory, read it. It's not appropriate to bias the question at hand with my opinion in the main blog.

Oh, and this refers to just ground soldiers with the appropriate personal firearms of their era, and nothing more.

Ask: Is a US soldier able to, on average, kill at least 1000 enemy soldiers before he is killed, given the difference in technology and tactics?

The question is flawed, as there are many factors (such as terrain). Modern ground units can shoot much further and more accurately than early revolution era firearms, it's very probable that entire waves could be mowed down before they even got in range. The best strategy at any rate for the brits is to zerg rush the marines.

The question is, can the marines kill close to 1000 each before the enemy gets in range? Because once the enemy is in range, there will be a wall of bullets coming at the marines, and they're probably going to get screwed very hard. (We have to assume each brit is capable of only one shot. One minute reloading time? Not going to happen.)

For the sake of this argument, I'm going to assume a flay or near-flat area, possibly with the marines in a slight crater of some sort. No artillery, mounted weapons, explosives, or calvary/tanks, because the marines would throughly pwn the brits with in that area, just hand rifles. Very light or no fortifications on the marines (ie, they're exposed). Open terrain.

I personally think the best strategy is to make a full circle around the marines position, and move in. Keep in mind the high tech weaponry can likely rip through several bodies before being stopped, so the most logical thing to do is spread everyone out to minimize losses. Those in the front should fire their weapons early at a high angle with the hopes of hitting the marines; Though unlikely to inflict serious damage, it at the very least will serve as an annoyance and distraction, and hell, if it hits their exposed hands, it's gonna sting a lot.

As they get closer, they're more likely to inflict more damage. Each brit fires as soon as he gets to the front, because he doesn't have long to live afterwards. He stays there after firing because tactically he's more useful as a meat shield for those behind him than if he were to reload and shoot again (This usefulness ratio decreases as the distance to the marines decreases, where a lethal shot is more likely). It depends on how fast they can run, but it is possible that the brits can beat the marines, but not without very heavy losses.

Brits would likely win because of sheer numbers, but the marines would have a much higher K/D ratio. If the marines get some tanks however…>:D

Well thats easy, the marines would win because

A) automatic fire

B) gernades

C) the brits all stand in an easy to shoot line cuz they're proper like.

I forgot to mention some rules: No explosives, unlimited ammo, you can't kill them via starvation/cutting off supplies, because they have unlimited shit.

Outcome has nothing to do with Marines or British. It has everything to do with M16 vs. muskets.

M16 effective range: 200 - 400 m (max range > km)

musket effective range: < 50 m

M16 fire rate: 800 - 900 rounds/minute

musket fire rate: 2-3 rounds/minute

So outcome is obvious. Like shooting ducks on pond.

As we all know from every movie out there, the 100-strong marines would hold off the British for a little while, then take a few losses, then kill a few thousand more, then take some more losses, and so on, until it was down to the lowest-ranking private with something to prove, and his tough-as-nails girlfriend with a heart of gold, and they would valiantly launch themselves into a last-ditch attack to kill 50,000 red-coats, and one of them would get severely wounded - with a far more critical injury than what the dead marines have sustained - and the other would let out a cry, promise to come back for the other, then defeat the rest of the british, come back for the casualty. Cut to three weeks later and the survivor still has a patch over a minor scrape, while the casualty is up and walking around with his nearly-fixed broken ribs, leg, shoulder, and fractured skull.

Cut to three months (or a hundred-sum years) later, and the couple is in a large chappel getting married, with a marine platoon in full gear sitting in the front pews, smiling happily up at them. Suddenly a cry of "heftig angreifen!" is heard, and the couple's eyes light up in familiar horror. The camera quickly zooms out from their faces; up through the sky roof; and up into the sky so that you can see a kilometer's radius from the church, and all you see is a black swarm of surounding Germans closing in on the church.

Cut to black.

@FSX: Though I did not laugh (being in a public area), that was the funniest comment here.
