Dont buy Nationwide Insurance

I've got adware on my computer, which sucks and is impossible to remove, but generally only bothers me when i try to use Google. Just now, I used Google to search for encyclopedia dramatica and bring up the page, and as usual, the adware directs me to a different site. Usually, this isn't a huge deal.

But this latest redirection was to the following URL:

http://www.nationwide.com/sem/auto_testimonial.html?CPAO=127&CPCA=ROC&CPAG=Auto&KW=US&WT.srch=1&WT.mc_id=baROC00004&engine=ask&keyword=baROC00004

Yes, Nationwide Auto Insurance. Nationwide advertises through the use of adware. For this alone, I will never in my entire life become a customer of Nationwide, and I very strongly urge the rest of you to do the same.

Adware amounts to a denial of service attack on my personal computer because it denies me the services I want and forces unwanted ads in my face. I will be calling them when their business hours open up on Monday with a very unhappy call.

In other news… Can anyone recommend a solution to my adware problem which doesn't involve reformatting? Reformatting is not an option for me, and all the software I've tried, freeware and cracked commercial products, have failed to eliminate the spyware/adware.

If you know the name of the malware, you should be able to get a specific solution from Symantec or something.

If I get a really bad one, I usually just delete that shit manually. Deleting half of the windows system files in the process, admittedly. Though there was this one time when a virus figured out how to disable my favourite tool, ctrl+alt+delete… Bastards…

Any virus that doesn't is poor - which is why it helps to have better, or even better, custom built, tools :D

Well, you can try opening up the task manager and see any process with a weird name, and search for that exe and delete it.

Once I got a very annoying virus my antivirus couldn't get rid of. I had to manually delete some crap.
