Post your game's progress so far

cuz i wanna know what i'm going up against. this is my first game making comp i've ever entered in, and i'm about to piss my pants.

here's what i got so far:

just getting the engine down and the overall feel of the game, gameplay-wise. colseed still has to do the graphics afterwards. i'm expecting some great results out of this.

spent about two hours to do that, i'm gonna be working my ass off non-stop.

slow-motion shotgun….hehe

im not sure if i'll allow the player to use slow motion at will, i was originally just gonna make things go in slowmo after you kill an enemy.

people go down fast when they get shot though

maybe have slowdown when walking near/over dead bodies?

or right as they're getting shot, for about half a sec before they fall down…that might be ok

People still use gamemaker?

What are you doing back here? I thought you killed yourself because of your chronic butthurt or something.

i have no clue what you're talking about colseed. :p

did you ever play max payne, where sometimes when you kill an enemy the cam goes in slow motion while he dies?

i'm doing something similiar.

Are you having it so the slowdown lasts until the enemy's body hits the ground though? 'cause that seems a little long to me

I guess I was trying to say you could have it so there's only a brief slowdown, right as bullets hit the enemy, so the player can see that their bullets made contact or something.

Having the entire death sequence slowed down could almost serve to glorify it in a sense, prolonging that moment of "ha, I killed them!" Versus, say, not slowing it down - bang and the enemy goes down. The moment of elation in that case is much shorter.

It's kind of a question of what you want the game to be like I guess - I recall you mentioning it should be a survival horror kind of thing, and it seems to me that glorifying enemy deaths would detract from that. That was why I mentioned the thing about having some slowdown when going near bodies, which might force the player to look at the bodies longer maybe. (that probably shouldn't be done though, constant slowing down of the game could get really annoying fast lol)

See how the death sequence slowdown plays in-game though, it could work. And it might not provide any glorification factor at all, I honestly don't know.

of course then I might have to make the blood splatters look really pretty D:

don't worry, i won't make slow motion longer than it has to be it's only going to be two seconds long. there will most likely be no body to hit the ground anyway, because the body is blown up and shredded by the player's shotgun.

kkewl

so instead of "blam-splat-thud" it'll be "blam-SPLOOSH"?

heheheheheh

i've finished making the slow motion thing and i've added an enemy to the game. i'll pm you the file, if you'd like. Seeing that you want to make sure it works so bad. :p
