Anyone watch the VGAs?

Great show, there were some pretty good and interesting games that were announced and some really good and surprising trailers, especially by Naughty Dog and Bioware. Bioware got me hyped for Mass Effect 3 again.

anyone who has seen the VGA's and knows me even at the slightest knows where this blog is heading…

was anyone else extremely surprised and disappointed that MW3 got best shooter over Gears 3, Rage and Battlefield 3?

Especially considering how hard Spike was trying to insult Activision every chance they got? They even had someone t-bag an Infinity Ward employee after COD won Best shooter. lol

Honestly, Gears 3 should've won, even though I am pretty disappointed by some of its multiplayer design decisions as a long time fan, it still had a 15 hour campaign crammed with surprises and hundreds of hours of MP gameplay with horde, beast, co-op and versus. you can tell they've busted their asses to make the game, especially knowing that it was xbox's only big exclusive for the year and Bungie left MS, they had big shoes to fill. I think they've worked the hardest out of all of the shooters besides maybe Rage, cuz i dunno too much about Rage.

Battlefield 3 is decent, but a huge disappointment for me. I thought Bad Company 2 was better in so many ways. they were so focused in trying to make BF3 better than cod, that they forgot to make it better than Bad Company 2. that's all im gonna say.

Rage seems pretty decent, though I've only played a demo for it before. So I dunno if it should have won best shooter.

I've never believed that thing where people say Activision pays people off to get what they want, until today. Spike insults Activision and COD every time their name was mentioned, yet they still got best shooter…

wow.

Also, Battlefield 3 and MW3 are proof that the Military FPS genre is near-dead.

The Military FPS genre as a whole is proof that unique design in videogames is near dead.

because, it's always the same soldiers that no one gives a fuck about shouting over walky talkies because someone or something just blew up and the Russians are always invading shit, it's really getting old.

1: I'm not surprised MW3 got best shooter in the least, as a matter of fact, I'd be more surprised if it didn't.

2: Gears 3 is indeed awesome, but I don't think the campaign can hold a torch to Gears 2. I also don't like how they sacrificed some of my favorite effects from GoW 2 to fit in pretty god rays (the water physics.)

3: I love the Battlefield series, but I don't know about BF3, I'll see when I actually play it. But for now, Battlefield2 and BadCompany2 is where it's at.

4: Military shooters will never die, trust me.

nah, not really, I just think originality in military shooters doesn't exist anymore, there is STILL unique design in video games now, they just focus on more realism, like Rockstar with LA Noire and Red Dead Redemption, pretty cool games where their stories, technology were never seen in video games before.

Unique design IS still in video games, they just focus on pushing their technology more than they used to and try to make games as realistic as possible, for example LA Noire with its facial animations, trying to make a believable story that puts you in the shoes of the good guys for once, and using realistic detective skills to find clues.

The Last of Us looks awesome. The girl in the trailer reminds me of Ellen Page. lol

ARMA II exists, the rest should just give up and stick with the awesome action, which I don't mind.

new game being devved by Epic(yes, the same people who make Gears of War):

looks kind of cool actually, i keep hearing that it will be an open world survival game, where you have to scavenge and build to survive. the only reason why I'm interested in this is because it seems strange that Epic is interested in doing this, it'll either be really good, or really bad. who knows. though, i am pretty disappointed that they aren't making a new Jazz Jackrabbit
