Anniversary

By looking through the creation dates of all my GM6 files, I've traced my Game Maker history back to a year ago today. I downloaded because I was bored and home alone on a Saturday; now look where it's got me. W00t.

As for Mekanos, it's getting pretty close to a demo. I composed another song for it yesterday (took me about four hours, but I did it), which is one of the main reasons work on it has been so slow. I have trouble composing music that I think fits. I've also finished all the room transitions and issues with persistence (at least for now), which was a lot of work. So yeah. Won't be long now. Get psyched.

And a random bit of trivia- Mekanos originally came from an idea I had for an undersea exploration game. But one day I started working on an engine and decided to set it in a castle instead, I don't know why. Once you find out the game's storyline, you'll realize that it doesn't really matter.

Does anyone know a better way of making it so that certain objects, like bosses and switches and powerups, can only be gotten once in a room, but others, such as enemies and destructible blocks, come back when you leave the room and re-enter? What I've been doing is having all the enemies self-destruct when I leave the room, and then having the main character re-create them when he enters the room, which works, but is very tedious to code. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Well, I've run out of things to say. So long.

i'd just use global variables, because there probably isn't that many bosses or powerups, right?

i'd just use global variables for things like that. for example, in the player's creation event:

global.powerup_doublejump = false

and then when the player gets the double jump powerup:

global.powerup_doublejump = true

and then in the room start event in the room that contains the powerup, just add this:

if (global.powerup_doublejump == true) { instance_destroy() }

that's what i'd do. nobody says it's right though
