RPG Plans, CheeseMod, website #1

About a month or two ago I started making "plans" for an RPG game originally described as "2d single player runescape" the ideas come a bit farther than that now and I've decided to use the Scary Four Digits competition to start work on the engine.

Right now I'm thinking about taking my grid based movement code from OpenPokemon v2 and tweaking it so that characters have collision masks outside of the grid. It will be less efficient, but it will let me have zelda style movement instead of the pokemon styled grid.

As for CheeseMod, bukkits being annoying again (they have 1.9 prerelease ready, but they keep updating their 1.8 version instead of releasing 1.9). So I haven't been doing much work on CheeseMod, only 3 things on the changelog so far not including new mob/item support. The good news is that I have a lot of free time for other stuff =D

In the world of college, I finished my first ridiculously simple website for that easy class. It's not much, but I didn't put much effort into it =p

I never liked Runescape overall, but what I did love about it was the exploration. You should definitely make a huge world :D. Have you ever played Xenoblade Chronicles? That game has combat that reminds me a lot of Runescape, but also has an immense exploration aspect.

I'd love to see how this goes as I used to be a great fan of runescape.

Yeah I hope to have a very large world, I've got a spriter working with me and we're going with a somewhat simple style (more like "link to the past" rather than something like minish cap) so it should be easy to add new types of areas. Though I'll probably be using a lot of crappy placeholder graphics for the contest. I've never played xenoblade though, they haven't released it in the USA yet and even if they had I've got no money =p

I already plan on having a lot of quests, since its 2d I'll hopefully be able to program them a lot faster than runescape. Since I'm starting with the halloween contest my first few will probably be related to that.

I've also decided the game will have multiplayer minigames/pvp, but the training/questing/etc will all be done in single player. I might even do a wilderness styled area where you can go pking or searching for rare items and/or fast training methods. But most of the game will be focused on single player and I wont add the minigames until much later on.
