Meh... game music?

I haven't said much recently. Mainly cause of school. Progress is slowly being down on that new platformer you've seen (or not) in screens in previous blogs. I've been playing ST more than working than my own games, and that's a bad thing , so I guess I need to get my lazy ass off of Jake's work of art and start doing some real work, which I hate. I'm rather slow at progress.

Recently I've been looking for music to add to my game. Problem is, I can't seem to find any kind that seem suitable. It's supposed to be a slightly dark environment, but so far I've tried looking for mods (they're pretty small in file size and > midi) but there's only like one or 2 with something I like, but then there's parts I don't like. So I've been aggravated. I don't know whether any composer would even bother, so I decided to try to learn to create music myself.

But then I'm stuck again. I like music but have absolutely no idea how to start; music theory seems goddamn boring to learn and I tried using a tracker to start off. I can do simple beats and stuff that I imagine, but I don't get so far after that. Perhaps I've never been much of a musical person anyways, so I guess I'll have to keep searching for music that might fit. Any suggestions on learning to track, or to create music? It seems like the hardest thing to do right now, starting off trying to make music for the first time.

Maybe it'd be a better idea to release a demo and let people decide, but then I really don't know. I plan on releasing a demo of the platformer next week, but there's a huge queue and all <_<

Anyways, if anyone has links or something (I've already looked at ModArchive) the genres can be ambient or techno or something similar, and that would be helpful.

Trail and error never fails…even if its advancing through failing.

I have a ton of ambient/creepy mod files that would fit your game, but since I illegally ripped them from the data file of another game, I don't think they're safe to use in any other project without permission… hehe.

On the other hand, I could help you out and compose you a piece or two (or as many as you need). It's kinda late right now to get started tonight, but add me on msn (check my profile) and I'll get with you first thing in the morning tomorrow.

Buy a guitar, Search for chord diagrams.

Try them for a while. Practice your fingers. And you can play basic music in a week or 2.

But guitar is not really suitable for game music…

You can get the synthesizers or something expensive, but they don't sound very nice. Just practice.

Yes. Really game music is tracked, and it will take you 3 years to get atleast something listenable.

I'll add you when I'm more active, I don't need any music right away though. Thanks for your (future) assistance.

And I also have an electronic keyboard I tried to fiddle with, learning a few pieces of music, but I fail at trying to make even a simple song. It's probably because I haven't memorized notes and what they sound like.
