BUFO; Production Story
Production of Bufo;I sat outside, I was in a wooded area in my backyard. I knew everything there was to what I was looking for. Off not too far from my right I hear a few crunching noises of the crisp leaves. My feet froze as I listend over the dew on the grass, I could see it. The creature was nowhere near an escape route and was too slow for me, I ran up and caught it. I slowly calmed down the toad and looked at it.3 years later…I sit outside, with another toad… but my last toad. I have not seen a toad since I caught this guy… or girl. Either way, it was beautiful. Each marking was different from another toad, more facinating than any finger print of human also. It was late afternoon, I sat outside in a new backyard, a new city, a new life. Our grass was like liquid gold as the evening sun shined on the damp grass. I put my toad down on the ground, and looked down at it… I saw the way it crawled, hopped, and even eat… something so fascinating in the afternoon's silence, maybe the most fascinating thing I have seen. And I wondered about making another world, virtual world, and made for the toad. Make my forest, my own creatures, my own life… and so it began.'Later this night,'I was originally using the digital cammera to take pictures of my pets to hang up in my new room. Then I also did another thing, a commitment to my idea earlier, of making a game about my toad.I took 2 picture (Top Down Shooter perspective) of my toad on a sheet of plastic, then I took 2 videos; crawling and jumping. I spent hours trying to perfect it, from the markings to movement. I then looked at the clock after I finished, 3 AM… I then limped off to my bed. All of the next 2 weeks I programmed the trees, ground, MDEN, and AI. Any chance I had of being on that computer, I took it. Then after awhile I did nothing, not programming, not spriting, nothing.A few months laterI recently redesigned my toads aquarium which he shares with a turtle. It looked like a forest… it was a forest. All that week I saw my toad and turtle active, happy, and living the life. Which made me remember, Bufo, I darted across my room to 'MY' computer. I popped in a CD and opened Bufo. And I fixed a few things, added a moth, redid the enviroment… Then I went on 64 Digits. *Now for the Game* Bufo (Bufonidae)BUFO is derived from the latin word "Bufonidae" or "toad." The toad is a marveolous creature, it lives with what it has wisely. But can you keep generation of toads surviving in a forest of all sorts of creatures, now that is where you see challenge, and Bufo brings delivers that to you. This game represents a forest, a growing forest for that matter. In fact the forest may seem to 'never end.' Now you have 1 life, 1 toad (per generation), and you have to keep it alive. Bufo is a creative blend of programming, art, and nature all wrapped up in a MB or two. You can see this fusion of art, programming, and nature here:http://64digits.com/games/index.php?cmd=view_game&id=3777
Screenshots looks very nice! Especially that toad and rain. But you should work on that piece of GUI there. I may try this when I get to somewhere where is computer with Windows.
Whoa! I was just about to comment on the mating toads in the screen shot but you changed them…
I commented those two little lovers already in the Games section :D
Actually its a rotating animation… so its like the same 3 or 4 pics everytime. But anyway I wont give up on this… infact, blah blah blah. Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah. And yeah once summer comes this game will be making more updates and fixes than blah blah blah.
