I decided on a whim that I wanted to see what my Test RPG would look like with nicer sprites and backgrounds, so that's what I did today.
I also added/Upgraded the sounds.

You could always use blend modes. I'm pretty sure there's one out there that will blend black. Just not additive.
Ugh. I couldn't find a blend mode to do that. Maybe I'll try surfaces…
The concept has always eluded me though.I like the general overall look of it, it could maybe use a little bit of work, but it's pretty sweet.
