This is the second time I've tried to replace an LCD/Digitizer on a touch screen device. It.. didn't go well. Just like the first time.
Well, my sister recently got a new phone and decided to give me the barely functioning phone she replaced. It had a few missing buttons and the glass was almost entirely shattered. She decided to give it to me since I said that I could try and repair it. I thought the Evo 3d couldn't be more difficult to repair than that iPod Touch I tried last time. Right?Well, for one, since it has a way bigger screen than the iPod it's much more difficult to remove the LCD or Digitizer without them bending to incredibly uncomfortable levels. What makes it worse is that the phone had a LOT of glue sticking them to the phone. This makes it much harder to be delicate with those parts while also using enough force to unstick them from what they're glued to. It's even worse when I don't have the most stable hands in the world. They're actually pretty shaky most of the time.Long story short: eventually my hand slipped and scratched some pretty important parts. Now, the LCD (which was fine before) doesn't even turn on anymore. I cannot possibly express how frustrated I feel right now.On the bright side, just like when I tried it with the ipod, if given the same phone and had to do a repair on it, I pretty have the insides of the phone memorized. On the downside, I'm probably never going to see another one of these phones again. So, it's pretty much useless information./Vent
Generally you want to replace the whole display assembly (LCD and glass and digitizer) as a unit, since a lot of them are glued or otherwise sealed together.
most devices like that were not designed so that normal users could open them. I know from modding my PSP battery. what a HUGE pain in the ass that was. i did successfully make a Pandora's Battery but i can't get the cracked case back on and therefor i can't USE the damn battery on my PSP. what shit right? only reason i needed one was because i bricked my PSP by accident. followed all the procedures but still got bad results from a particular mod. tried again after fixing it and got same results so i had to switch to another mod entirely.
Well, I was able to get the digitizer off the LCD mostly fine, but unfortunately I still had to remove the LCD from the phone because the strip that goes from the digitizer to the little motherboard went behind the LCD.
The hardest part of repairing these things is taking them apart (Because of the glue) and not putting them together, which is relatively easy.If it makes you feel better, I got drunk while assembling my computer, and probably bent some pins on my roughly $400 motherboard. =3
