Coffee and Java

hehe, geddit? Its a play on words see? it- ah forget it.

Anyway, I'm back on coffee! WII! (there's another one! Geddit? wii? wee?) I've finally had the 3 dollars to buy some sugar, and can drink coffee once more. Not that you're in the slightest interested.

I'm also using Java (and therein lies the rub). Java blows. I much prefer GML, although that may be because GML is a higher level language than Java (higher doesn't necessarily mean superior or more powerful, just more user-friendly). I'm using Processing to write code, and I don't like the lack of a GUI in the DE.

I've also added a lovely little effect in Danse Machina. As the first level starts (its on a planet this time around, not in space like the tutorial) your ship actually comes in and lands, before spitting you out. A bunch of lovely fog effects and overglowing lights and it all looks nice. Of course I'm avoiding actual CONTENT, but don't we all?

I'm thinking about when I'll introduce the other weapons. They are already done, and work fine, but I'd like the player to consider which weapon to use in the game. With the servo-arm thats easy. There are a lot of advantages to using a servo-arm, and one major disadvantage (half firepower). Other weapons do a base damage, and a random damage as well (so while a missile potentially does more damage, it is highly random). They also have speed and accuracy. Hopefully they'll all balance out fairly well.

I'm also thinking of making dual-linked weapons, so about halfway through you can equip a servo-arm AND have the normal firepower, because both weapons are on the one hardpoint. That could certainly be interesting. Kind of like Mechwarrior. I may even give you the ability to switch between single-fire and dual-fire :D wouldn't that be fun?

Well, till next I write. Good night, and good luck!

Java is a very powerful tool if you use it for the right projects, it isn't for everything though. What are you doing with it?

I'm using it at uni. We're developing an interface that shows maps, camera feeds and such that can be uploaded to PDAs. Its for an augmented reality game we're developing. We have to use Java though.

Someone has seen a movie or seen the title.

You sure like to play with words.

Java.

And no movies. That phrase was coined by some radio dude a few decades back in the red-phobia days (I think. I know it has something to do with communists and propaganda)

I play with more than words ;)
