Danse Machina update 5

Posted by Malaika on July 25, 2006, 3:31 a.m.

Another smallish update on my progress with DM.

First though, I finally got a new avatar. Wow… I've had the other one for YEARS. I kinda like the new one though.

Anyway, the overhaul of DM is going well. For those that have slow computers, I'm sorry to inform you that I will be keeping the Luminaire lighting engine. It handles shadows better than Phoenix's engine, for my purposes.

However, I'll be changing things around substantially to improve performance in other areas, so don't fret.

I've been working on changing the collision detection, and it works reasonably well. There is one tiny little bug that I don't like though, so I'm trying to fix that.

I've changed the servo-arm, so that you can have 2 weapons and the arm. I'll be working on guns now, as well as the upgrade system. I'll keep you posted.

I'll also be changing the menu sprites and in-game decor, so that should be interesting.

Next blog I'll do a bit of backstory into the Novastorm universe, so if you're interested look out for it.

That's about it.

ultim8p00, no the guns won't have alternate fire options, because you control two guns at a time (one with left mouse button, the other with right mb) and DF, the link is coming. There are still things with the engine I need to work out, and then I have to build the first level and contents.

By the way, the first level will be split into 3 (possibly 4) parts. Each part will have multiple rooms if necessary, and the total level size will be on a scale rarely-if-ever seen in a GM game.
