2x 2.93 GHz Quad-Core Xeon processors

2x ?.?? GHz Hexa-Core Xeon processors??

16GB (8x2GB) 1066MHz DDR3 ECC SDRAM

6GB (6x1GB) 1066MHz DDR3 ECC SDRAM

12GB (6x2GB) 1066MHz DDR3 ECC SDRAM

4x 2TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA HDDs

4x 640GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA HDDs?

ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB

Other goodies (RAID card, sexy monitor, etc)

$10,276

~$9000? Better?

I'm thinking about it semi-seriously.

What would I use it for? Uh… um… hmm. Who cares? It's freaking awesome! I'll find something to use it for.

FYI, thanks for the hardware suggestions, but… it's a Mac Pro. I'm mostly limited to the choices Apple gives me, so that graphics card is the best option currently. When they update the Pro with the hexa-core Xeons, hopefully they'll update the graphics card too.

I'm somewhat considering going with 2 small SSDs in RAID 0 for OS and applications, and 2 450 GB, 15k RPM HDDs in RAID 0 for my files. Insanely expensive though… it'd drive the price back up to $10k. (Not considering the need for an external drive for backup) Or! 4 450GB 15k RPM drives in RAID 5? That'd be around $12k… pretty harsh. But I could live with the standard single 640 GB 7200-rpm drive for a while until I make the money to buy the fancy new drives.

Heh, it's nice to dream. And I could do it too, but…

I think I'm gonna go with something a little more practical for my lifestyle and significantly lighter on the wallet:

A gaming laptop. $4000.

18.4" 1920 x 1080 screen

Core i7 Extreme 8MB L3 Cache 3.20GHz

8GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285M 1GB GDDR3

3x 500GB 7200RPM HDDs in RAID0

4X Blu-ray Reader 8X DVD+/-R DL Super-Multi Drive

annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd…. Microsoft Office. lol

For now, that is. Maybe sometime down the road…

Just get two of NVIDIA or ATI's best DUAL video cards and then you have an unstoppable machine.

i think the important thing to ask is what will you DO with this thing, is it just going to be for games or will you actually be making things with it?

geeze o.o I doubt i'll ever spend more than $2000 on a computer.

MMOnologueguy 14 years, 8 months ago

That's ten times the cost of my computer and it's not that much better.

Okay maybe it is that much better.

Okay maybe it isn't such a bad idea.

Okay maybe it is such a bad idea, that's a lot of money.

Okay maybe it isn't because you're like the really rich or something, I dunno.

Why would anyone pay so much for great performance and graphics? It doesn't make fucking sense.

Misconstruct 14 years, 7 months ago

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, Xemic. lol

sirxemic 14 years, 7 months ago

Semi-sarcastic. :)
