ambition

typically, this is where my projects fail. I get a small portion of the game functioning, then I come up with an overwhelming amount of ambitious ideas.

That's the stage my Pokemon TCG is in right now. Will it be the first to overcome this stage? Can't make any promises.

So here I spill the beans on my ambitions:

Eventually every English Pokemon card ever made.

A Rival with a dynamic deck.

Day/night cycle.

Dynamic weather conditions w/96 variations.

8 Kanto league leaders, 8 Johto league leaders, 4 Kanto masters, 4 Johto masters, 1 Kanto Champion, 1 Johto Champion, and one World Champion to defeat.

Card values changing over time due to rarity.

Dynamic card trades w/ NPCs

Meta brought to you by the fact that the TCG will be played on the sophisticated device called Pokegear in the game, and the Pokegear will have many other advanced functionality: Send/receive messages, view world map, weather forecast, clock, minigames, card manager, user profile, save game, web browser, card store, radio…

The pokegear itself will resemble a highly popular smartphone made by a certain fruit company, with the exception that the device is only used in landscape. And the home button is a Pokeball.

You'll be able to battle NPCs nearby using ad-hoc, or across the region using 3G.

So these are my goals. I'll be putting many hours into it during the weekend. Maybe I'll have something to show off come Monday.

I don't think 96 variations of weather are really that important… especially for a top down game like pokemon.

Good luck

96 variations isn't that much… there's only 5 variables from which they arise.

It's definitely not important to the game, especially since it's a TCG game. But it adds to the atmosphere, so it's in.

oh ok. (heh thought you meant like 1:rain 2:sun 3:snow 4:frogs…)

Might be a little hard for the player to keep track. People like in-game items to have a set worth, it's just less confusing.

It won't be too hard, Juju. By over time, I meant as later versions of the game get released containing newer cards. In other words, the values will be static per release. Whenever a new version is released with a few new sets, some cards in older sets might be more rare and valuable.

Wow, if you're lucky, you're going to get a cease & desist letter from both Nintendo AND Wizards of the Coast!

Seriously, Cesque, you're way too awesome to live in Poland. Move somewhere cool like the Moon or something.

It's a possibility. But to hopefully avoid such a fate, my game will have no multiplayer whatsoever.

Just don't over advertise it and make it look better then the original. Like the 3d Chrono Trigger. Or else they'll go and make some crap like Chrono Cross.
