Ellipsis..

So I'm in the process of ripping my anime collection to my external hard drive. So far I've got 241 GB ripped, which is 14% of my collection.

Earlier today though I decided that I'm going to convert it all to lower quality video in order to save space. With 14% taking up 241 GB, all of it would take 1.7 TB, which is just shy of filling up my 2 TB drive. Which I use for other things, so that obviously isn't going to fly.

Luckily with Handbrake, I'm able to convert it all so that it takes a fifth of the space with no discernible difference in quality. I converted my rip of the first episode of Fooly Cooly with it, and the resulting video looked damn near identical to the original when I played them side-by-side with VLC. The original weighed a hefty 1.03 GB, whereas the shiny new file came in at 204 MB.

So in other words, my potentially 1.7 TB library of anime now will only take up 350 GB or so. Unfortunately the converting process is a slow one, with the conversion taking just about as long as the video's runtime to complete. It'll be worth it though. Frees up a shitload of space and also lets Zune and Media Go recognize the videos so I can put them on my Zune HD or PSP Go if I so wanted.

In their own ways, yes, they are all good. Gantz has a terrible ending though, and Neon Genesis Evangelion's endings are somewhat polarizing.

Initial D won't appeal to you unless you like cars and/or drifting.

Gankutsuou, Planetes and Serial Experiments Lain are fairly slow paced, and Serial Experiments Lain is truly a bunch of nonsense. It's awesome, but it doesn't make a damn bit of sense.

Planetes is almost like Cowboy Bebop, but it's got much less action and the characters are many times more ordinary. Instead of bounty hunters, the main characters are space debris collectors. It's pretty entertaining nonetheless, and its space setting is depicted with more realism than most fiction.

Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo is The Count of Monte Cristo in anime form. Who'd have guessed? It's quite good if you're willing to tolerate its slow pace. With the exception of a handful of mostly superficial changes (such as it taking place in the year 5053), it's a very faithful adaptation of the book's plot. It's told from a different character's viewpoint though, which makes it quite interesting.

Full Metal Panic has some good humor and action, but it's not incredibly deep. Same goes for Darker Than Black, but Darker Than Black has better animation and music.

Um… Elfen Lied. Naked chicks killing people. 'Nuff said.

Eden of the East is pretty cool. Guy wakes up standing in front of the White House naked, with a gun in one hand and a cell phone in the other, and his memory erased. Then it just goes from there. The conclusion leaves you wanting more though. Animation is superb.

So yeah, hope you find something out of these you like.

I wanted to make fun of the fact that you own a Zune, but can't think of anything to say.

I recommend Bincho-tan and Keroro Gunso(Sgt-Frog).

The Zune HD is fantastic, FYI. Sleek, sexy, and plays my music like a boss. Everything I want in an mp3 player. The software is a bit bloated, but it hardly taxes my beastly computer's resources.
